While browsing at Target I came across this cool retro figure. From the Hammer Studios 1966 film The Reptile, it's the title monster, a woman who's been transformed into a snake-like monster. MEGO decided to release her, and what a cool action figure she is.
There are no accessories, simply the creature herself. She's in a cloth black dress, with green skin, large eyes and snake fangs, arms and legs molded in green, and boots. The paint on the face looks very good and accurately captures the film's monster, with scales, yellow highlights, and large orange eyes. MEGO did a great job on the sculpt. The dress is a nice soft, flexible material that doesn't impede her joints, allowing her a variety of poses.
The figure is articulated in the neck, shoulders, elbows and knees (single jointed), thighs, upper waist, with wrists and ankles on swivels. MEGO figures are not as expressive as most imports, yet you can still pose them fairly well. The Reptile is 8" tall, so she scales well with NECA horror figures. She comes in a carded box that has an illustration of water flowing among green hills and trees. It's not particularly interesting compared to the cards of other releases.
MEGO's The Reptile is a very nice horror figure. I'm glad that they will sometimes give us less popular characters that we wouldn't normally expect, such as Phantom of the Opera Masque of Red Death (which I own) and the werewolf from Face of the Screaming Werewolf (a wonderfully goofy movie). The Reptile is a really nice, high quality release and a perfect addition to my Halloween collection.
