The latest Ultraman to get the Shinkocchou Seihou treatment is Dyna, the 2nd of the 90's era (Heisei) Ultras and the direct sequel to Tiga. He's a decent figure with none of the issues that plagued the Tiga release from last year. Let's check him out.
For accessories, Ultraman Dyna comes with a pink alternate color timer, 6 pairs of hands (fists, relaxed, open palm, thumbs up, flat and karate chop), and his Solgent Beam, which is a translucent light blue with purplish highlights. It has the crescent shape at the end, which the actual beam had, and it's honestly one of the nicer Ultra rays produced by Tamashii Nations. His thumbs up hands are also a welcome addition, since Dyna regularly gave that hand sign throughout the series. His accessories are decent and representative of who he was as a character. I suppose they could have added some extras, like his Dyna Slash, or his Ultra Fork (blue energy ball). Though if you own the Shinkocchou Seihou Ultraman, you could probably use that Ultra slash effect.
As for his articulation, it's very good, though not nearly as amazing as Ultraman's was. His head and neck are on ball pegs, upper torso and waist on ball joints, shoulders are on hinged ball joints that pop out and up, along with a shoulder pad that extends forward, giving his arms extra range. He sports double jointed elbows and knees, bicep swivel, his thigh joints allow him to kick far forward and spread his legs almost to a T-pose, thigh swivel, hinged ankles that move up, down and twist, and toe hinge. His ankles sport only a slight swivel inward, so that makes it challenging for him to pull off and hold one-legged poses. You have to balance the rest of the body out just right to achieve those. The 55th anniversary Ultraman had better range in his shoulders and ankles, but at least Dyna's chest paint doesn't easily rub off like Tiga's did, so that's a relief and much appreciated.
Since this figure is based on Dyna's basic form, he sports red and blue color stripes amid the silver, with gold across his chest, as well as on his forehead, that encircles a crystal. I always liked his pointed, diamond shaped head. That helped him to stand out a bit from the others. The rest of his color scheme wasn't as arresting as Tiga's, and even his new generation counterpart Decker had those nice purple-blue galaxy markings adorning his chest and forehead, but Dyna's look is decent enough. His multi-colored Solgent Beam was very striking, reminiscent of Ace and Taro's.
Ultimately, S.H. Figuarts Shinkocchou Seihou Ultraman Dyna is a worthwhile figure that sports pretty good articulation, a nice amount of interchangeable hands and a very cool beam effect. If you're a fan of this Heisei era Tokukatsu hero, then this figure is worth owning. Since Tamashii Nations gave us at least 2 Tiga foes (Golza and Kyrieloid), here's hoping they'll release one of Dyna's co-stars. Monsarger, Zeluganoid, Reigubas or Shieldron would be sweet. I will always hold out hope for more Ultra kaiju in the Figuarts line.
