The latest figure that I purchased was the Ricsan Custom Toys Ankylosaurus aka Anguirus from the Godzilla series. He was delivered last week.
This version of Anguirus is based on his appearance in the 2004 Toho film Godzilla Final Wars. His head spikes are a bit shorter, and his tail ends in what appears to be a spikey midieval mace. The last time this fan favorite Ankylosaurus was seen in a movie had been 1974's Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla. In Final Wars, he was controlled by the Xillian aliens and was used to attack Shanghai, and then later, he was teamed up with Rodan and King Caesar to fight against Godzilla. He had no beam weapons, but was able to curl himself into a ball like an armadillo, rolling and smashing things. I'd always wanted a highly articulated version of this kaiju, and since no other company has put out one, I jumped at getting this one by Ricsan Custom Toys.
The sculpt of the figure is really nice, accurately capturing all the details of his body, including his spiked shell. He's painted a dull bluish grey, with a dull yellow for his shell, toes, nails, and spikes along his back. The inside of his mouth is painted pink, with a dull yellow for the teeth. The eyes initially had a thick coat of white and looked a bit sloppy. I couldn't tell if that's how they were painted, or if he had styrofoam stuck to the eye sockets, since the figures are packed in that material. I removed some of the paint with an alcohol pad as best I could and used a thin toothpick to try and redo the eyes, since the sockets are so small. They didn't come out looking too great, but at least he now has pupils.
Utilizing string articulation, the figure can turn his neck and head up, down and to the sides, the mouth can open and close, the shoulders and thighs can twist around and a bit forward and out, the elbows, knees, wrists and ankles can twist, bend and pivot, and the tail can twist and curl. The figure can achieve both standing and four-legged poses. He can also squat and do some one-legged kicks, using the tail to properly balance the figure.
Despite the eye paint issue, the figure turned out just fine. He looks great, he can move smoothly, and it's nice to have another highly articulated kaiju from the film Godzilla Final Wars. I’ve enjoyed the Ricsan Custom Toys selections so far, and will probably purchase more down the line. As long as he keeps churning out these cool kaiju, I say they’re worth getting.
