The latest pre-order action figure I received was the Mafex Hush Scarecrow, from the Batman comic. Out of the caped crusader's many rogue villains, Scarecrow has always been one of my favorites, with his lanky body and creepy, horror movie appearance. This Mafex Hush version looks great, and was the most visually appealing of the various Scarecrow figures that have been released, so I went with this one.
The details and paint are top notch. I love his stitched together outfit, rope belt, funky, witch-like old hat and straw hair. The burlap face mask is particularly creepy, with that menacing stitched mouth. He’s like a Halloween ghoul that stepped out of a corn field and into your nightmares. The accessories include 4 pairs of hands (open palm, menacing, a relaxed pair and one with fingers slightly curved), 3 portraits (regular, open mouth, and an unmasked Dr. Jonathan Crane head, with his long face, high cheekbones and big nose). They also included a plastic stand with several attachments. Unfortunately, no weapons were included. A scythe would have been really nice, as Scarecrow has wielded one a few times in the comic. Perhaps even some crows or a Jack-O-Lantern would’ve fit well with him. It is a missed opportunity, but at least his various heads and hands help to give him character.
The articulation is the highlight of this figure. Heads and necks are on ball joints and are interchangeable, with his collar a loose piece that fits around the neck peg. The double jointed elbows and knees have a great range, as do the thighs and hinged ball joint shoulders. His legs can kick far forward and back. The upper waist can twist and turn in a full circle. He can do various kicks, one legged stands, kneeling and crouching poses, and sitting cross legged. He is a lot of fun to pose and mess with, containing the high quality range that most Mafex comic book figures are known for. Out of the various ones that I own, Scarecrow is among the better ones as far as engineering and articulation.
Despite not many accessories as far as weapons, the Mafex Hush Scarecrow is still is nice release. It looks great, can move extremely well, and is visually appealing in that creepy, fun way. Out of all the Hush characters released by Mafex, Scarecrow is one of the coolest ones. He looks awesome paired against my Batman figure. I was able to snag him off an import site for slightly less than the original retail price (he was on sale), so I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to own him. Now that I have him in hand, I’m quite pleased with this spooky super villain.
