The latest figure I purchased from Ricsan Custom Toys is his new figure of Ymir, the Venusian monster from the American Ray Harryhausen classic 20 Million Miles To Earth. He arrived last week.
The sculpt mostly captures the monster's weird but goofy look, with his tall, lean body, forked tail, and cute, ape-like gnome face. Personally, I've always felt he resembled the offbeat creatures from the Dr. Seuss books, like a mix of the Lorax and the Grinch. He made the figure's mug a bit more adorable, as the monster from the film had a slightly more menacing scowl. He's painted a dull green with grey highlights on the torso, brows and top lip, almost like he's sporting a lighter colored mustache. The eyes are white with red irises, and a dull yellow for the teeth, finger and toe nails. There's a row of spikes that start at the back top of his head and go down all the way to the tail. There's also scale like patterns throughout the body. The paint is pretty decent, though the resin that the figure is molded in can rub off a bit, mostly at the joints. Other than that, the figure looks great.
Sporting the usual string articulation as his other figures, he can move his shoulders, elbows, wrists, neck, torso, thighs, knees, hocks and ankles. And the tail has multiple segments that can twist and curl. He can sit, raise his arms, kick his legs forward, and balance on his two feet. I was also able to get him into running and one legged stand poses. Like the rest of his figures, just take your time with moving the joints, being wary not to stretch them out too far, and you shouldn't have any issues. All of the Ricsan monsters I've purchased have all stayed intact and are still posable.
Ricsan Custom Toys Ymir is another nice release from this company. His sculpts are good, and he sells them for a reasonable price. I think this Ymir is one of the better figures he's produced. He's begun to do some original kaiju, as well as branch out from his original Japanese releases to some American monsters (the dinosaur from Valley of Gwangi and the Kraken from Harryhausen's Clash of the Titans are also available for purchase). I always look forward to what he'll put out in the future. I'm quite pleased with my little Ymir. He fits nicely with my other assorted creatures.
