Having ordered this figure a few months ago, Ricsan Custom Toys Bagan has finally been delivered. It ended up taking longer than usual due to the tariff situation back in August. Ricardo, who makes the figures, is located in Mexico, and since the Mexican post temporarily suspended all shipments to the US, the figure ended up getting delayed until this week.
The monster Bagan first appeared in the 1993 video game Super Godzilla. Toho had plans to feature him in one of their Heisei era films, but that never panned out. Despite his lack of big screen appearances, Bagan has been a much desired kaiju among fans, and this year Bandai recently produced a vinyl figure of the beast. For the Ricsan figure, you had a choice of white or brown color. I picked the white as I felt it would be more noticeable. Bagan sports black on his horns, the sides of his wing-like shoulder spikes, his torso, belly and knees. He also has red eyes, and red on the underside of his nasal horn, as well as the underside of his neck and chest, the underside of his tail, and several spots on his thighs and legs. His finger and toe nails are grey, and he sports four purple orbs in his shoulder spikes. For the most part, the paint is applied decently, though it looks a bit crude in certain areas. The small eyes are painted quite well, which is impressive considering they're so small. They are red with yellow pupils. I don't think I'd be able to paint them nearly as good. His chest, with those two black spots amid the red, reminds me of a ladybug. Bagan's appearance always calls to mind of some of the Heisei era Ultra monsters, such as Darambia, Gagi, Grossyna and Mons-Ahgar. I could easily see him appearing in an episode of Tiga, Dyna or Gaia. Ricardo did a fine job of capturing Bagan's demonic dragon look.
The figure, like the rest of Ricsan Custom Toys releases, utilizes string articulation. This allows Bagan to move his neck, shoulders and thighs, elbows and knees, wrists and ankles, tail and torso. The jaw can also open a little, though it is a bit loose. He can balance well on just his legs, and can achieve running, kicking, sitting and flying/swimming poses. Since he's cast in resin, there is always some paint scratch where the joints move, so that's something to be aware of when articulating him.
Ricsan Custom Toys Bagan turned out nice. The white, red and black color scheme pops, the sculpt is nicely detailed, and he can move well enough. For anyone wanting a super articulated figure of Bagan, this is the one to get (plus, there are no other Bagan action figures besides the Bandai vinyl).
