The other figure that was shipped with my G2K and Mother of Ultra is the S.H. Figuarts Ultraman Cosmos Luna Mode. He is from the 2001 series and had a gentler nature than his predecessors, often healing Earth's creatures that were corrupted by the dark being Chaos Header. Since Bandai has released Tiga, Dyna and Gaia in the Figuarts line, it was only a matter of time before Cosmos made his debut. He is the last of my late September release preorders.
Unlike most Ultras that have red as part of their color scheme, Cosmos Luna Mode is blue and silver. The only other color is a bit of yellow on the inner lining of his "ear". Considering his design is rather basic, without any particular details that stand out, the navy shade helps to make him easily recognizable. As usual, Bandai did a good job capturing his look in action figure form.
His accessories include six pairs of hands (fists, curved, pointing, grabbing, two flat pairs), an alternate low energy color timer that's translucent pink, and his Full Moon Rect beam, a burst of light energy fired from his right palm that quiets excitement and calms emotions in others. He would use this beam on kaiju that were under the influence of the dark Chaos organism. That accessory is very nice, beginning with a burst of yellow energy and having translucent shades of pink, blue, green and yellow throughout the body. Molded within the plastic are sparkle-like shapes. One thing to note is that it is somewhat heavy, so you'll want to utilize a support stand (not included) to keep the arm from drooping down.
Cosmos' articulation is damn good. Considering the character was quite acrobatic, Bandai made sure to give his engineering the maximum amount of range for achieving those dynamic poses that he was famous for. Butterfly shoulder hinges that stretch forward quite far, very nice double jointed elbows and knees, thighs that split apart almost to a perfect T, and excellent upper torso range allow Cosmos to twist and turn in all sorts of fun ways. He is one of the more expressive Ultraman figures in this line, so you won't have any trouble getting him into those unique, martial arts-like stances.
S.H. Figuarts Ultraman Cosmos Luna Mode is one of the better releases that Bandai has put out. That very colorful beam effect is a standout, and his variety of expressive hands and great engineering make him a lot of fun to mess with. When he first went up for preorder, I debated for a few days whether I wanted to get him or not. Now that I have him in hand, I'm very glad that I did. He came out fantastic.
