Recent News & Stuff

There has been some recent action figure news that caught my attention. The first one was the reveal of Mafex's first Wonder Woman figure based on a comic (Superman For Tomorrow). I'd always wanted to see Mafex give us a Wonder Woman comic figure, and now that I see the promo pics, I think she looks great. She comes with 3 different face sculpts, as well as hair sculpts (I'm not sure if the face plates are interchangeable, hopefully they are). She also comes with a cloth cape, a shield, a sword,  and a removable skirt and belt, to display her with her classic briefs. Some people complained that they didn't include her lasso of truth, but I don't mind, as I think her accessories are very good. Plus, I can always use any of the other lasso accessories that came with my other Wonder Woman figures. I instantly pre-ordered this figure. The other Mafex reveal was a Superman from that same comic. I'm not that big of a Superman fan so I won't be getting it, but that one looks like it comes with a lot of extras, too. The only drawback is that Mafex take SO long to release their figures. It's set to drop in April of 2027, but since they're infamous for delaying releases, this might get pushed back. Hopefully that's not the case, but either way, I'm excited for it.

The other release that caught my attention (and made me laugh), was the reveal of Hiya's Biollante. About 2 days before this, S.H. MonsterArts announced a repaint of their Biollante figure. I own the special color version from a few years back, but man, that figure pissed me off. The tentacles on it were so damn loose that you couldn't move them without them easily popping off. What's the point of having an articulated figure if you can't articulate it? Now that Hiya is putting one out, I'll be looking to buy it and will probably sell my SHMA. The Hiya one, while pricier than their usual releases, is still WAY cheaper than the upcoming SHMA, which they're charging $300 for. For the same outdated sculpt with a slightly different paint job, and joints that fall apart? Fuck that! Hiya has not let me down thus far, and the figure looks great. The only drawback being that Hiya also takes a long time to release their figures. But if this Biollante is as good as the 4 Hiya figures I own, it'll be worth the wait. I also found it hilarious that Hiya have been revealing their new figures shorty after the release or drop of SHMA's same ones. It feels like they're clowning SHMA, and I'll all for it.

The final tidbit of action figure news that caught my attention was the announcement from Bandai of their S.H. Figuarts 10th anniversary project. Being that this year also marks the 70th anniversary of the Ultraman franchise, Bandai plans to celebrate by announcing 10 new figures over the next few weeks or so. Ultraman Teo, from the new, upcoming series has already been revealed. Nine more reveals to go. I'm both excited and nervous about this. While there are quite a LOT of Ultra characters I would love in the Figuarts line, I also hope that the next 9 ones shown aren't must haves for me, otherwise, my poor wallet. I'm going to assume that they'll probably put out ones that have been teased at past events, such as Max, Joneus, Five King, or Greeza. As long as there are 2 or 3 kaiju that I really want, I'll be happy.

Will we finally see the release of this Tyrant figure that was teased some years ago? That would be sweet! I would love to see Neronga, Gubila, Doragory, Gazort, or even Ultraman 80. Keronia, of course, is number one on my wishlist. I would seriously cry like a baby if Keronia was one of the ones announced. I'll have to keep watching and waiting...

Some other news that was recently made was Titanic Creations have been putting out updated photos of their upcoming Reptisaurus figure. It's basically Repticulus from the 60's monster flick, but maybe they can't use that name due to some licensing issue? Either way, the figure will come with the classic head, and a more updated head, as well as two pairs of wings (large and small). Some other extras will be included as well. Based on the photos, it's looking to be a sweet release. Looking forward to it.

And finally, a collection of random pics of my various figures.

Help Me… I’m Possessed (1974) / #Missingcouple (2024)

I've watched some weird, obscure horror movies throughout my life. I can now add this lurid 1974 schlockfest to that growing list. In a castle in the desert, Dr. Arthur Blackwood runs a sanitarium filled with mentally disturbed patients (as well as staff). He claims to be working on finding a way to cure people of any violent tendencies they have, and brags about his younger sister, innocent, child-like Melanie, as evidence that his treatment works. When she was a child, their parents had to keep her locked up and chained in the basement, to control her violent fits. Now that he's cured her, Arthur has his wife Diane come to the castle to meet Melanie, so that they can be one big, happy family. Diane begins to grow suspicious that something is amiss after a Sheriff shows up investigating the murder of 2 local teens, and sets about on her own investigation, hoping to uncover the sinister secrets that she feels her husband is hiding. Help Me... I'm Possessed is an outrageous,...

Ultraman Omega finale

Episode 25, the series finale of Ultraman Omega aired this Friday. From the very first episode I was hooked, and the series continued to maintain a high quality until the surprisingly emotional end. Sorato (Omega) regained all his memories, learning that he was one of many Space Gazers, who's job is to watch a planet and not interfere with any wars between the species (in Earth's case, humans and kaiju). A space Gazer's job is to observe, study and take notes, to learn from a planet's successes and mistakes, in the hopes of finding the right formula to achieve universal peace. Having returned to his previous role as simply a watcher, Kosei, Ayumu and Sayuki were forced to rely on themselves and their team to defeat the powerful kaiju Zomera. As he continued to watch the battle, Sorato/Omega found himself wrestling with the inactive role he was meant to do and his memories of the friendships he had forged with the others, as well as the examples of human kindness he had ...

S.H. MonsterArts Anguirus 1972

One of my most anticipated figure releases of 2025 was finally delivered this last week. Godzilla's trusty sidekick, S. H. MonsterArts Anguirus (based on the 1972 suit). From the early video and photo reviews I had seen, he looked to have turned out a great figure. Now that I have him in hand, he absolutely is! This Ankylosaurus is based on the suit that was introduced in 1968's Destroy All Monsters, and made subsequent appearances in Godzilla vs. Gigan (72), Godzilla vs. Megalon (73), and Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (74). Anguirus was the 2nd Toho monster to ever appear on screen, dueling with the big G in 1955's Godzilla Raids Again. For the later films, he became Godzilla's buddy, helping him out in his various battles. I'm a bit surprised that it took Bandai this long to release Anguirus in the MonsterArts line, as he's one of the more popular kaiju, but better late than never. He's painted in a chocolate brown, with pale yellow on his various spikes, hor...
