404Toys Alien Magma


After purchasing the 404Toys Alien Nackle and liking it, I went ahead and purchased their other Ultra villain, Alien Magma. He made his appearance in the first episode of Ultraman Leo. Magma had destroyed Leo's home planet L77, and then came to Earth with his twin monsters Red Giras and Black Giras. While fighting against Ultraseven, Leo, who followed Magma to Earth, arrived in time to save Seven and battle the evil seijin and his kaiju. Magma has a humanoid appearance, dressed in a black body suit with gauntlets around his wrists and ankles, metal briefs, and a cat-like silver face with hair and two protruding ears. He had the ability to transform his hands into weapons, including a hook and a spear called the Magma Saber. He was definitely one of the standout characters from the Leo series.









Like the Alien Nackle figure, Magma is constructed of a standard, articulated body, covered in a stretchy plastic body suit. The face is well sculpted and painted, with his hair a light brown, his pointy ears black and dark brown, his silver face, and blue eyelids. He sports a silver logo on his chest, and his guantlets and briefs are a shiny silver. The body suit helps to hide the joint cuts. 404Toys did a fine job accurately capturing his appearance in the 1:12 scale.









He comes in a nice box with an illustration of his face on the front. His accessories include 3 pairs of hands (fists, relaxed and karate chop), and his weapons, the Magma Hook and Magma Saber. When taking the hands off the ball joints, the guantlets simply slide off and you can replace them with either of his weapons. I did notice that you have to push his weapons far to get them to hold onto the peg. They don't have a very secure grasp, but they do fit. Adding a small dab of sticky tack might help to better hold them in place. There are a few beams that he shot, but his saber and hook are his classic weapons, and therefore, the perfect accessories for the figure.






The articulation is pretty good. The shoulders seem to have pull out butterfly joints, with an upper arm cut and bendable elbows. This allows the arms to have a good range of motion. His torso can twist a little side to side. His thighs can kick forward and out, though the silver briefs do impede them a little. He has a thigh cut, bendable knees and ankles. He's able to do pretty much most of the poses you would get from an S.H. Figuarts. I just make sure to move the joints slowly so as to not risk ripping the fabric body suit, though it is a stretchy plastic material.















404Toys Alien Magma is a cool release from this 3rd party company. He looks great and comes with just the right amount of accessories to make the figure worth a purchase. I don't know if Bandai will ever release an Alien Magma figure in their S.H. Figuarts Ultraman line (though he is one of the more well-known villains), but if they don't, then this 404Toys version will do just fine. Since they seem to have done a decent job with producing the more humanoid figures, I wonder what others they may do in the future. The twin Pitt aliens from the Eleking Ultraseven episode, Alien Valky from Ultraman Taro, Alien Barossa from Ultraman Z, Alien Babarue from Ultraman Leo, Alien Quraso and Alien Cannan from Ultraseven, and Alien Grotes from Return of Ultraman would be cool. I'm looking forward to seeing what their next release might be.

Help Me… I’m Possessed (1974) / #Missingcouple (2024)

I've watched some weird, obscure horror movies throughout my life. I can now add this lurid 1974 schlockfest to that growing list. In a castle in the desert, Dr. Arthur Blackwood runs a sanitarium filled with mentally disturbed patients (as well as staff). S.H. MonsterArts Anguirus 1972

One of my most anticipated figure releases of 2025 was finally delivered this last week. Godzilla's trusty sidekick, S. H. MonsterArts Anguirus (based on the 1972 suit). From the early video and photo reviews I had seen, he looked to have turned out a great figure. Now that I have him in hand, he absolutely is! This Ankylosaurus is based on the suit that was introduced in 1968's Destroy All Monsters, and made subsequent appearances in Godzilla vs. Gigan (72), Godzilla vs. Megalon (73), and Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (74). Anguirus was the 2nd Toho monster to ever appear on screen, dueling with the big G in 1955's Godzilla Raids Again. For the later films, he became Godzilla's buddy, helping him out in his various battles. I'm a bit surprised that it took Bandai this long to release Anguirus in the MonsterArts line, as he's one of the more popular kaiju, but better late than never.
