My Selections For Not So Great Figures of 2018

Here is my list of 2018 Figures that I got that should've been better than they actually were.....    S.H. Figuarts Antlar. Sculpt and paint are great, articulation is pretty good, but the issue that put this guy on the list is that it’s a web exclusive, meaning that you’ll pay a lot. Considering the only accessory you get is a plastic dirt mound, that price is too steep. That’s a shame, because I’m sure many fans would love to have this figure, but not everyone can afford it. They should’ve made it a regular release so it would be more reasonably priced, or added a ton of accessories to justify the web exclusive cost. If you were able to get it as a pre-order then you were probably lucky, because the price will only skyrocket in the aftermarket. If you don’t believe me, look on Amazon or Ebay and good look trying to find this guy for under $100.   Evolution Toy Jumborg 9. I should’ve known better, but considering how much I really liked their Fireman, I assumed

My 10 Favorite Figures of 2018

Here’s a list of my 10 favorite figures from 2018 that I own. I still have not gotten S.H. Figuarts Gudon or S.H. Monsterarts Godzilla 62 (they’re on the way), but out of the other new figures released this year that I purchased, these are my 10 best.   10. S.H. Figuarts Black Widow. Good articulation, nicely detailed and painted, a good selection of accessories (3 different face plates, baton weapons, several hands). I never got any of the other new Avenger figures, though I heard great things about Thanos and Iron Spider. 9. S.H. Figuarts Ultraman Orb Dark. This one suddenly came out and was a nice surprise. A simple design, the same as Orb Origin, only black, red and grey. This one sports great articulation, a nice selection of swappable hands, an Orb Caliber, and since he only has a red color timer it seems to be glued in place and there’s no issue of it easily falling out, like on Orb Origin’s. 8. Evolution Toy Fireman. I was wary of getting a figure fro

S.H. Figuarts Ultraman Zero Beyond

My latest box day item was S.H. Figuarts Ultraman Zero Beyond. This guy is an upgraded version of Ultraman Zero and looks really nice with his mostly silver body with purple highlights, as well as multiple and more prominent eye sluggers on his head. As you may (or may not) know, Zero is the son of Ultraseven. He’s become a popular Ultra since his debut in recent years.     The paint apps and detail on the figure are very nice. I noticed no paint chips, smudges or drips. All was very clean and crisp. Tamashii Nations has been knocking their Ultra figures out of the park in terms of accurate sculpt for the last several years. I can’t recall seeing any figure recently that seemed off, including the few kaiju they’ve done.      As for accessories, Zero Beyond comes with some good ones. He has several pairs of hands (6 altogether), alternate pink color timer, and 4 effect parts, 2 energy shots that fit on his hands and 2 Zero Twin Swords, zero sluggers that turn i

S.H. Figuarts Ultraman Orb Dark and S.H. Monsterarts Gamera 99

My most recent box day arrival was 2 figures: Tamashii Nations Ultraman Orb Dark and Gamera 99. It was nice to get 2 figures on the same day. Orb Dark has really nice paint details. It’s basically the same figure as the first Ultraman Orb that was released, only this one sports the black and grey with red color scheme, with red eyes, color timer and forehead light.     The joints are really good, not too tight or loose. The accessories include his Orb Caliber with a black replacement plate, as well as a wide variety of hands which I liked (especially since Ultraman X only came with 3 pairs total).       As for Gamera 99, the figure is wonderfully sculpted. The details on his skin, shell (with battle damaged cuts and scrapes), and body are all great. The paint applications are all nice, EXCEPT for the lower jaw, which is basically white paint slathered over the teeth. It stands out because the upper row of teeth and his tusks have some nice shading to it
