Mafex Justice League Wonder Woman

Today I picked up a Mafex Justice League Wonder Woman. It's the 1st Mafex figure I've ever gotten. I'm usually an S.H. Figuarts kinda guy, but their Wonder Woman's face looks just bad to me, like a caveman. I don't think it looks like Gal Gadot at all.    The face on this Mafex figure is decent. Out of the 2 heads, the one with the hair flowing back looks most like Gal Gadot. While the other one only mildly resembles her, at least she still looks like a woman. Out of the 3 WW figures that Mafex has released, this one seems like the best one looks-wise.  As far as articulation goes, this figure is decent. One thing I noted in the many reviews I saw on YouTube was that the joints that attach the arm to the shoulder are a bit thin and could potentially snap if moved too roughly. As you can see, they do seem quite thin / fragile. I own enough action figures to know that sometimes you need to be careful with some when moving joints.

Jordan Peele's Us

Today I caught Jordan Peele’s latest film, Us. It concerns a family vacationing in Santa Cruz that are suddenly confronted by their creepy, violent doppelgangers.   It stars Lupita Nyong’o as Adelaide. It begins with her as a child, in Santa Cruz with her parents, when she wanders off while her dad is playing games on the boardwalk and has a very odd, disturbing experience. Cut to present day, and she’s now a wife and mother of 2 children. She and her husband are taking the kids to their family’s beach home in Santa Cruz. Adelaide slowly begins to feel uneasy, as memories from what she experienced as a child slowly come back to her.     Her discomfort continues to creep up to the point where she tells her husband she wants to leave. From there things turn very crazy and the horror really kicks into high gear.       I went into it with no real expectations. I had just heard that it was very unusual. I was pleasantly surprised at how different it was, and f

S.H. Figuarts Ultraman Zero

My latest purchase is S.H. Figuarts Ultraman Zero. I wasn't initially planning to get this figure (I own an Ultra Action one), but since it comes with many accessories, I picked one up. As far as articulation, this figure is an improvement over Zero Beyond. The elbows are double jointed, and the legs can move out more. And the color timer is better assembled so it actually stays in. The arms are a bit more stiff, especially the shoulders, so it's still not as fantastic as Ultraman X.  The colors and sculpt are the usual Tamashii Nations high quality. Zero is red and blue with silver. He also sports the chest and shoulder armor that his father (Ultraseven) does.  The accessories include 6 pairs of hands, including an extra one where he does his "peace" sign. He has an alternate head without eye sluggers, 2 eye sluggers that can fit in his hands, a larger Zero Twin Sword, an alternate forearm with a bracelet, and 2 eye sluggers that at

Hasbro Black Series Darth Vader

Today while I was at Target getting some beard care supplies, I passed the action figure aisle and noticed the Hasbro Black Series Darth Vader, so I picked it up. I’d been wanting to pick up an articulated Vader for some time, had considered one from the S.H. Figuarts. The reviews of those ones ranged from good to just average. I’ve heard some good things about the Black Series of Star Wars figures so I grabbed this one. At $19, how could I pass it up?   Well I’m pleased to say that it’s $19 well spent. It’s a very good figure, wonderfully detailed, painted, sculpted, and very good articulation. He stands about 6 inches or so and feels quite solid. His articulation points are the neck (can move around, left and right), shoulders, bicep swivel, slight wrist joint, thighs, knees and ankles. He’s also articulated at the waist but it’s limited, can only move side to side a bit, no real ab crunch.       His only accessory is a light saber that’s red, and you can remov

Captain Marvel

I finally watched Captain Marvel earlier today. I enjoyed it. I went in with no real expectations. Most of what I was hearing was that it was average at best. Well, that and all the people on social media that hated it with a passion (most of which whom have been screaming about how much they hate it for the last several months despite the fact that it barely came out 4 days ago). Anyway, here's what I enjoyed about it. Bie Larson - She was actually good in it. The trailers made her seem pretty muted, but she was a fun character, kind of snarky and surprisingly funny. Brie fleshed out the character nicely.  Ben Mendelsohn - He was surprisingly good as Talos. He brought a lot of heart to the character and made him a standout. The chemistry between Vers / Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) and Nick Fury - They played well off each other, and Samuel L. Jackson was his usual great self. It was interesting seeing him as a younger, less jaded Fury. The 90's nostalgia
