S.H. Monsterarts Godzilla 1962

A figure I’ve been waiting for for a while now, S.H. Monsterarts Godzilla 1962 has finally arrived. I thought that NECA would be the first to get this figure out, but Monsterarts beat them to it.

This figure is very nice. Some early posts expressed concern over the eyes and paint job. Some photos I saw seemed to show misaligned eyes, as well as grey/black paint marks on the teeth. Luckily the figure I got turned out good. One thing to note is that the eyes have a glossy coating over them, so in different light and/or angles, they can look off.

King Goji sports a greyish color, with some reddish/brown highlights, specifically on the chest and torso. The irises of his eyes are a yellow so they stand out in the light. He also has some pink along the gum lines and reddish/pink inside the mouth and tongue.

His articulation is pretty good. The King Goji suit is quite bulky so there will be some limits. The head can look up, down, a little side to side. The upper neck can look down and up, a little side to side but not much. The mouth can open pretty wide. His shoulders can move in and out and around but not all the way due to the sculpt. He has elbow joints and his claws can move as well. He has a lower waist joint that allows him to crunch forward quite well. His thighs can move out, but don’t kick too far forward or backward. His knees do articulate and his feet have some articulation. His tail has multiple segments so you can curve it up and to the side.

I feel that Monsterarts very accurately captured King Goji’s sculpt, from his goofy face, to his 4 large dorsal spines on his back, to his bulky body and even hands (which even on the suit look like they were put on backwards). King Goji was never one of my favorite G suits, but it was done very well so I got me one.

The accessories it comes with are an atomic breath effect with a stand. It seems to be the same that was used for Mosu Goji’s Emergence version, only this one sports mostly white paint.

As for the price, that’s a potential issue for some as this figure is around the $100 mark. Yes, it’s nicely sculpted, has good articulation and the inclusion of beam effect is nice, but that price is steep considering that NECA’s figure will be around $20 and is rumored to also include an atomic breath effect (but we won’t know for sure until it’s actual release). And of course, we won’t know if the promo pics of NECA’s figure are accurate until the actual figure is released to compare.

But overall, Monsterarts’ King Goji is a very nice figure. The only drawback is the price, which is already going way past $100 in the aftermarket. Since King Goji is from the Showa era and he is a popular suit among many Godzilla fans, that could be the reason for his high cost. I’m just happy to have gotten one, I’m very satisfied with mine.

Help Me… I’m Possessed (1974) / #Missingcouple (2024)

I've watched some weird, obscure horror movies throughout my life. I can now add this lurid 1974 schlockfest to that growing list. In a castle in the desert, Dr. Arthur Blackwood runs a sanitarium filled with mentally disturbed patients (as well as staff). He claims to be working on finding a way to cure people of any violent tendencies they have, and brags about his younger sister, innocent, child-like Melanie, as evidence that his treatment works. When she was a child, their parents had to keep her locked up and chained in the basement, to control her violent fits. Now that he's cured her, Arthur has his wife Diane come to the castle to meet Melanie, so that they can be one big, happy family. Diane begins to grow suspicious that something is amiss after a Sheriff shows up investigating the murder of 2 local teens, and sets about on her own investigation, hoping to uncover the sinister secrets that she feels her husband is hiding. Help Me... I'm Possessed is an outrageous,...

RicSan Custom Toys Kyōrū Kaiju (Titanosaurus)

My latest kaiju figure purchase is the Titanosaurus made by Ricsan Custom Toys. I own and love the Varan & Gabara, so of course I had to preorder this one when it was available. He was delivered earlier this week. This kaiju hails from the last Godzilla film of the Showa era, 1975's Terror of Mechagodzilla. The Black Hole aliens are back, rebuilding their robot in another effort to take over the planet. They enlist the help of an ostracized Earth scientist named Mafune and his daughter Katsura, who are able to control an aquatic dinosaur named Titanosaurus. They plan to use both kaiju and mecha to attack Japan. Titano was a cool monster, with his tail that opened into a fish fin, and he would use it to create whirlpools in the sea, and high winds on land. I'm hoping that S.H. Monsterarts makes one for the 50th anniversary of the film, but when I saw this Ricsan Custom version, I couldn't pass it up. Titanosaurus (called the Kyōrū Kaiju), comes in a white box, with its n...

S.H. MonsterArts Anguirus 1972

One of my most anticipated figure releases of 2025 was finally delivered this last week. Godzilla's trusty sidekick, S. H. MonsterArts Anguirus (based on the 1972 suit). From the early video and photo reviews I had seen, he looked to have turned out a great figure. Now that I have him in hand, he absolutely is! This Ankylosaurus is based on the suit that was introduced in 1968's Destroy All Monsters, and made subsequent appearances in Godzilla vs. Gigan (72), Godzilla vs. Megalon (73), and Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (74). Anguirus was the 2nd Toho monster to ever appear on screen, dueling with the big G in 1955's Godzilla Raids Again. For the later films, he became Godzilla's buddy, helping him out in his various battles. I'm a bit surprised that it took Bandai this long to release Anguirus in the MonsterArts line, as he's one of the more popular kaiju, but better late than never. He's painted in a chocolate brown, with pale yellow on his various spikes, hor...
