Mafex Iron Spider Spider-Man is my latest purchase and 1st Spider-Man figure. I had originally wanted the Figuarts version, but when this was announced, it looked nicer, so I held out for this instead.
The details are really nice and accurately capture the look of the suit in the film, from the darker blue, to the metallic shine. The articulation on this figure is great! The head and neck has great range, double jointed knees and elbows, butterfly joints on the shoulders, great range on the thighs, nice ab crunch, good ankle pivots. You can get this guy in many fun spidey poses.
One fun feature is that he comes with an extra pair of feet that have magnets on them, as well as an extra pair of magnetic hands. This adds more posability options. It's a feature that I've definitely been enjoying.
He comes with 6 pairs of hands in total (closed fist, holding fist, relaxed, open, magnetic and web shooting). An extra pair of feet that have magnets on them, an unmasked head and neck, 2 different masked heads, 3 pairs of webs (long, short and to hold), his iron spider legs attached to an alternate back piece, and a stand. Per usual, the stand is rather weak and not very good for holding him up in the air. You need a small screwdriver to tighten it, and even then, it still remains flimsy.
The unmasked Tom Holland head is just ok. It resembles the actor enough, though it's still a bit off and bland. It also seems a tad bit too big. It's not great, but I've seen far worse.
And now, the big moment. I was fully aware that the iron spider legs were a problem, having watched many reviewers on YouTube have them snap off. I tried several tips that they suggested to get them to not break, such as heating them a bit, and it worked until the last one that ended up snapping. The problem is that they painted the pegs and the holes they attach into, so the paint sticks with the holes, making them immovable. They should have not painted the pegs, that would've solved the issue. Oh well.
Despite that bad QC problem, I still really like the figure. The rest of it is done well enough that the broken spider leg issue is something I can overlook. Not to mention that I was already expecting it since it happened to many other collectors who's video reviews I watched. Had the figure itself been bad, the entire thing would've been a bust.
Size wise, he's a bit shorter than other 1:12 figures, but that's accurate to the character. All in all, he's a cool, fun, nicely detailed and articulated figure. Despite the badly done spider legs (waldo's, as they're called), he's still a nice figure.
