My latest Mafex figure is the comic style Venom. He looks very cool with his bulky, muscular body and slight shades of blue on his black suit.
Venom comes with many accessories, which make him a lot of fun. 6 pairs of hands (fists, open, grasping, magnetic, and 2 different holding ones), 3 different heads (closed mouth, open mouth and Eddie Brock head), 4 different webs, an extra pair of magnetic feet, and a stand. Some of the hands are tight, so I just use the end of a pen to loosen them a bit before putting them on. When I initially took off the head it came with, the entire peg came out so I had to use pliers to get it back in the neck. Other than that, the figure has no other issues.
The magnetic hands and feet are a lot of fun. It's cool to be able to put him on metal walls like he's crawling/climbing. Their Iron Spider figure has that same feature as well.
The design is very simple but cool. Venom is a big, bulky simbiote with big white eyes, sharp teeth and a large white spider symbol on his chest and back. The figure's design accurately captures his look from the comics.
Many collectors took issue with Venom's height, saying that he should tower over Spiderman. He's the same height as Mafex's comic version Spider-Man, but he is much bigger than the Iron Spider figure. I don't really have an issue with his height. He still has a thick, bulky build.
As far as articulation, he's quite expressive. He sports butterfly joints on his shoulders, though the bulky design does hinge it, but not too badly. His head and neck have a good range, allowing Venom to look in many different directions. The upper arm swivel, torso & waist joints, as well as thighs & knees are very good. You can put him in all the action figure poses appropriate for a comic book character.
The webs are white and easy to place by sliding over the wrist peg and then attaching the hand. The Eddie Brock head has the black lines running up his neck. All the extra hands allow for extra detail to the poses. I didn't even bother messing with the stand, as Mafex stands tend to pretty weak, only good for standing poses but not holding the figures up in the air.
Mafex Comic Version Venom is a nice figure. Once again, Mafex are proving themselves to be worthy, having improved their QC over the years. Considering that most of their figures come with many accessories, they seem to be giving Figuarts some real competition. I'm happy with my Venom.
