NECA Ultimate Pinhead

The leader of the Cenobites has finally arrived from NECA in Ultimate form. From the iconic 1987 Clive Barker film, Hellraiser, we have Pinhead, the latest in their horror icons series. He looks great and comes with plenty of accessories to make him a complete package.

Pinhead comes with 2 head (one with lips closed, the other with clenched teeth), an open and closed version of the puzzle box known as the Lament Configuration, a blade, a saw, a jagged hook, and 3 pairs of hands (one pair to hold the weapons, the other two open). The only other thing they could've included would've been a chain or two. But as it is, he comes with everything you need to make him complete.

Pinhead is fantastically sculpted and painted. The gashes and nails on his head, the bleeding, stapled wounds on his torso, the patterns on his sleeves and legs, and his skirt are all nicely crafted and detailed. His skirt is a soft fabric with bendy wire, which makes it easier to articulate his legs and get him in more expressive poses, like sitting and kneeling. I really appreciate NECA giving us cloth instead of soft plastic as it's more pliable and poseable. Even his 2 boxes are nicely painted and detailed,  accurately capturing the patterns on that Rubix-cube like Lament Configuration. And his weapons all have a small metal hook so you can hang them around his torso on a small string that's tied to it. That string, however, is the one drawback on this figure.

It is tied to 2 holes on each end of his torso and goes through a flap of skin on his belly. However, when moving the torso or holding it to move the other joints, you can easily press too rough against the string and cause it to break by accidentally pulling on it. Mine ended up ripping while I was posing him, as you can see above. I could easily buy another black thread and redo it, but it can become an issue. I ultimately just cut and removed it. Luckily, that's the only issue with this oherwise great figure.

His joints include his neck, which fits onto a long peg and can look all around and downward a bit, his shoulders which move out and around, his elbows, that, while not completely double jointed, still have a great range. His upper torso which twists, moves side to side and forward and back a bit, his thighs which kick far forward and out, his knees and ankle joints that move forward and backward and from side to side. All the joints are great and move smoothly. And like I stated before, the cloth skirt makes it possible to get him into easy sitting and kneeling poses. One thing about the heads is that the nails are soft plastic, so you don't want to risk pressing on them and bending them when moving or switching the heads. Luckily, he's easily grasped by the ears, so it's easy to avoid this issue.

Just like last year's Ultimate Sam release, this Ultimate Pinhead is fantastic and shows us what NECA can do with a little extra effort. They are getting better and better, and Pinhead is one of their best 8" figures to date. If you're a Hellraiser fan, I highly recommend you get Pinhead. To quote the demon himself, "no tears, it's a waste of good suffering", and you won't shed any tears, as this figure does not disappoint.

S.H. MonsterArts King Kong '21

The next May pre-order to arrive is S.H. MonsterArts King Kong from the Godzilla vs. Kong film. I was psyched to get a highly articulated Kong from Tamashii Nations, and the great ape is finally here. Kong is a little shorter than Godzilla (just like in the film). The details of the sculpt are all well done. Tamashii Nations did a good job capturing his look well, from his hair covered body to a few scars on his chest. His faces, including his eyes and teeth on the open mouth head, as well as his axe, are all well painted. The only issue is that they seemed to have gone with a glossy finish, so he seems too shiny, especially on his face and chest. A duller matte shade would've suited him better. At least it would've kept him from looking like he over-moisturized. As for his articulation, he's quite flexible. His head is on a ball joint, ball jointed neck as well, ball jointed shoulders and thighs, upper arm cut, single jointed elbows and knees that go in further than 90 deg...

S.H. MonsterArts Godzilla 1991 Shinjuku Decisive Battle version

The latest Godzilla figure I pre-ordered from the S.H. MonsterArts line has arrived. It is the 1991 Shinjuku Decisive Battle version, to go along with the Mecha King Ghidorah release from earlier this year. While the suit is almost the same as the one used in 1989's Godzilla vs. Biollante, they made some slight adjustments. Compared to the BioGoji figure, this one is much thicker, therefore, he does look different from that other release. His sculpt is the classic 90's era Heisei look, with small head, thick thighs, large dorsal spines and a long tail. Like all the other Godzilla suits of that decade, he has a cat-like face, both cute and menacing. While the King of the Monsters has had multiple looks throughout his 50+ years, it's the Heisei era that seems the most iconic. Artwork, toys, comics, etc, have all utilized this particular design. Similar to the 89 suit, this 91 figure has a small set of dorsal spines, followed by a much larger one, and then gradually getting sm...

S.H. Figuarts Ultimate Ageis/Ultraman Zero Armor option parts set

Earlier in the week I received my S.H. Figuarts Ultimate Ageis/Ultraman Zero Armor option parts set. I was busy with work and doing other reviews, but I finally got around to checking these out. They turned out to be pretty cool option parts. Ultimate Aegis is a set of armor created by Ultraman Noa . My initial thought was that they may be a bit of a hassle to attach to the Ultras. They ended up being fairly easily to swap out and put on them. The only issue I had was with the large piece (Final Ultimate Zero) that Ultraman Zero holds. I was having trouble getting his arm peg into the fist (it’s attached to the piece). Then I realized that I had on his forearm with his bracelet, so I swapped out the regular forearm without the bracelet and it went in easily. For the ultimate Zero Sword, each hand piece comes with its own fists, a red (for X) and blue (for Zero). The top of the fist has a peg that attaches to the piece, and then you ...
