S.H. Figuarts Birds of Prey Harley Quinn

My latest pre-order delivery was Harley Quinn from the Birds of Prey film. I watched it back in February and really like it. It was so much better and more fun than Suicide Squad. The figure represents Harley's look during the climactic fight in the funhouse, with her golden overalls, pink tank top and roller skates. The look is not as eye catching as her Suicide Squad outfit, but it's still shiny and colorful.

The box is very colorful and really stands out, with photos of Margo Robbie from the movie and pastel colors that were Harley's look in it. The figure comes with 3 alternate heads (smiling, open mouth laughing, and closed mouth with lollipop in it), 4 pairs of hands (open, relaxed, holding lollipop and for holding her mallet), her mallet with smiley face on both ends, and a pair of Roller Skates that can be swapped with the boots on her feet. I would've liked maybe an extra pair of holding hands and a gun, and maybe an extra closed mouth or serious face. But what she comes with is still decent.

The boots can be swapped off by pulling them off the peg and inserting the roller skates. The 3 faces are all look like Margo Robbie. Her necklace is an extra loose piece than can be removed when swapping out the heads. One thing that's different from other Figuarts female figures is that all 3 heads are different, whereas with other figures, they usually come with different face plates that can be swapped by removing the front hair piece. Since these are whole swappable heads, the pony tails are separate pieces that can be pegged into holes on the sides of the head. So everytime you switch the head, you have to switch the ponytails as well. This may pose a potential issue as the pieces are small and if you were to drop and lose them, then Harley would be without her ponies. So be careful not to lose them. Her golden overalls have a harlequin diamond pattern throughout them that really shows up in light. It's a nice touch, as are her small tattoos that are very detailed. And the colors and patterns on her roller skates are quite colorful and really stand out.

Her articulation is her head on a ball joint that can look in every direction, her pony tails that can move around, her neck, her shoulders that can drop down and are on a ball joint with swivel, allowing them to have a good range, moving high up, around and forward. Her upper torso can only move a bit from side to side, but her waist can crunch in every direction quite far, though it will leave a small gap when moving too far. The elbows aren't fully double jointed but do move in quite far, there's a slight swivel on them, and the wrists are on a ball joint. The thighs can kick out forward and out quite far, and the knees are double jointed, with pivots at the ankles and toe hinge on the boots. One thing about the knees is that the joint underneath is a dull yellow instead of the shiny gold of her pants, so when they show when bending them, they stand out. I suppose they opted not to color the joints the same golden shade as the paint may potentially rub off. However, they still are a bit of an eyesore.

Ultimately, the figure is quite good. The articulation is good, the accessories are nice, and the paint apps and sculpt are all exceptional. Because of her bright, shiny color, she most definitely stands out among my other characters.

I'm pleased with my Harley Quinn figure. The film didn't do as well as expected at the box office, so I doubt we'll get any other characters from the movie. I would've loved a Huntress or Roman Sionis aka Black Mask. But Harley was the star, so her figure is nice enough to represent the cast. If you're a fan of Birds of Prey, she's worth getting.

Titanic Creations Yongary 1967

This figure was released in late December, and I got it about 2 days before the New Year, so I'm counting it as a 2025 release. It is the Titanic Creations version of the Korean kaiju Yongary, Monster From The Deep. The film was released in 1967 as a Godzilla ripoff, with several ideas copied from the Gamera series, such as his tusks, his ability to fire a stream of flames from his mouth, and even firing a laser beam from his horn, similar to the slicing one used by Gyaos. The film is pretty goofy, but Yongary, like most of those Asian monsters, was pretty cool (to me, at least), so I was psyched that someone finally made a figure of this lesser known kaiju. When Titanic Creations put it up for pre-order, they announced a series of tiers, where they would add accessories when a certain number of orders were met. Enough fans ordered him, so that Yongary ended up with a shit ton of stuff, making him absolutely worth the price. In addition to the kaiju, you get a flame breath effect, ...

S.H. MonsterArts Godzilla Evolved Version (2024)

Early last week, this figure was delivered. It is the Evolved Godzilla from the film Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire, from S.H. MonsterArts. I admit, I haven’t bothered to watch the movie. When I first saw the trailer (about a month after having watched Godzilla Minus One and still being on a high from it), the trailer for The New Empire dropped, and I thought it looked stupid as fuck, especially this bad CGI scene of Godzilla and Kong running towards the camera like superheroes. The rest of it looked like Planet of the Apes, so I chose to pass. However, I do think Godzilla’s new evolved look is pretty cool, so when S.H. MonsterArts announced his figure, I went ahead and preordered it. And now, Pinkzilla is finally here. Godzilla Evolved has a sleeker, leaner body, with a bigger head and pink dorsal spines. His tail ends in pink spikes, like an ankylosaurus. The figure turned out looking great, with the spines painted but also translucent, really standing out from the rest of his bod...

RICSAN Custom Toys The Unbelievable (Varan)

For the last few months, I had been seeing photos and YouTube reviews of custom Godzilla kaiju from someone known as RICSAN Customs. He’s a guy in Mexico who makes 3rd party customs of articulated figures that no other company is making. Due to licensing issues, he gives them different names, such as The Dream Ogre and The Infant (Gabara and Minilla), Monster from Odo Island (pre-mutated Godzilla Minus One), Sō Shingeki Serpent (Manda), etc. This one is called The Unbelievable, and is basically the Toho monster from the film Varan (aka Varan the Unbelievable from the English dub). His figures are made of resin and use thick string articulation instead of ball joints (similar to Meego figures). So they are articulated and posable, you just need to be aware that they’ll move differently from standard ball joint figures, so practice a bit more care when handling them. Ok, let’s get the one negative out of the way. He packs his figures in styrofoam, and since that stuff can be sticky, my V...
