The next June pre-order release to review is the Endgame version of Captain Marvel. When they announced the figure from the first film, it didn't seem too appealing to me. This one had nicer, more vivid colors, and I felt she looked better with the shorter hair, in addition to the extra energy accessories, so I ordered it instead.
The first thing that I looked at was the face. While the face sculpt is nicely detailed and painted (and nicer than the previous release), it still does not look like Brie Larson at all. I think it resembles actress Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld on HBO) more. Another thing that stands out about the face is its simple, blank look. They could've included a few extra heads or face plates to give the character more expressions, like an angry intense face, and even a half smile smirk. At certain angles her face looks fine, but when she looks straight on, there's a blankness there that isn't very exciting. The figure comes with 3 pairs of hands (fists, relaxed and open palms), 2 effect blasts for the fists, and 4 swirling energy effects to wrap around the legs.
The blue blasts that go on her hands are a nice translucent blue and they fit snugly onto her fists. As for the swirling energy effects for the legs, those are a bit more problematic. The smaller ones that fit around her shins are fine, but the larger ones that go around her thighs tend to have issues staying in, especially the one on the left side. They are a soft plastic that can bend to open and clip onto the legs, but the larger ones tend to fall off quite easily. When I was posing her in them, the left one kept popping off several times. They're nice effects, they just need to have a tighter wrap around grip so they stay on better.
As for her sculpt and paint, it is very nice. Her suit sports a bright, vivid blue that looks nicely with the red and gold highlights. Her belt/sash is a loose piece that helps with the leg articulation. This outfit is much more vivid than the one she wore in her solo film. Tamashii did a great job with the sculpt and paint apps, which are all clean.
The articulation is pretty good. She has ball jointed shoulders, thighs, single jointed elbows and double jointed knees, ankles that swivel and rock, toe hinge, upper torso and waist ball joints that swivel, and extra hinges on the shoulders. The neck is on a ball joint, but the head seems to be on some type of peg. This allows for the head to move in all directions but without potential looseness that a ball joint can have. However, when turning at certain angles, there is a visible gap between the head and neck. You're able to get her into some nice action and flying poses, though she's not able to balance on one leg.
S.H. Figuarts Endgame Captain Marvel is just an ok release, mostly due to the blank head sculpt and lack of other heads. Considering it's a web exclusive, they really should've added a bit more. But knowing Tamashii, they'll probably release another Carol Danvers sometime in the future that will have more accessories. They tend to do that. If this figure looks good to you, then pick it up, otherwise, you may want to skip it and wait to see if Mafex releases her, as they tend to include a lot more accessories with their figures.
That is definitely kind of strange to not get any other portraits with a release like this. That's a pretty standard feature these days. I do like the energy effects and the sculpt on the hair, though.
