As I said in my previous post, the other figure I got from the new Spiderman retro wave was Gwen Stacy. She was finally delivered, so let's check her out.
She comes with a rolled up Daily Bugle newspaper, a midtown high school book, a blue folder an an alternate Mary Jane Watson head. She's dressed in a black sweater & boots, purple skirt and green coat. Gwen is blonde, while Mary Jane is a redhead. She is nicely detailed and painted, especially the faces. No sloppy paint bleed anywhere.
For her articulation, her head is on a ball joint and can move left, right and look pretty far forward, but can't look up too much due to the sculpt of the hair blocking it. Since it's a harder plastic (on both heads), it also impedes it from moving too far to the sides. Her arms are on ball jointed hinges and can move pretty far up. Her elbows are single jointed but have a decent amount of range. Her wrists are hinged, her torso cut can move in a full circle and pivot a bit in all directions. Her knees are double jointed and her legs can move in a full circle but not too far out as the skirt gets in the way of movement. She does have a cut on the right side that helps the leg to move out a bit, but not much forward or back. And finally, her ankles can pivot and twist to the sides. You can't get her into sitting poses due to hard plastic skirt, but you can achieve kneeling poses with some effort.
It's nice to have a Gwen Stacy figure, especially with the accurate outfit. And with the Mary Jane head, you have an extra figure. Marvel Legends did a good job making her look good, it's just too bad her articulation isn't better. Some sitting poses would've been nice at the very least.
I'm still happy with this figure. After all, it's Gwen Stacy, a character Marvel Legends hasn't done before (that I'm aware of). You won't be able to get her into wild poses (unless you put her head on another body), but Spidey now has his girl(s).
