Y-MSF Condor and SHF Upgrade Alpha Edge Effect Part

My latest purchases were 2 small items. The first is the Y-MSF Condor that made a solo appearance in Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster. In a very memorable and funny scene, Godzilla is about to snooze off when a giant condor suddenly appears and attacks his face. It all ends with Godzilla blasting the poor thing with atomic breath before it falls into the ocean and dies. The company Y-MSF is known for making vinyl figures of rarer kaiju that Bandai hasn't made, and this is on of their latest.

The figure is a simple, basic condor bird. It's in a flying position with wings spread, legs tucked underneath. It's brown with tannish highlights. It is nicely detailed, with feathers, the beak and talons being decently sculpted. The only articulation is on the tail, which turns. While the 2 wings are separate pieces, they don't really move.

The figure is smaller than the standard Monster Arts figures, but it is accurately in scale, as the Giant Condor was about the same size compared to Godzilla. It's a nice addition to my Godzilla collection, and makes for a fun little accessory. Now we just need a nice Godzilla '66 figure to go along with it (though Y-MSF is working on one).

The other small accessory that I got was the SHF Upgrade effect part, which was designed to go with the S.H. Figuarts Ultraman Z Alpha Edge figure, since it came with no effect pieces. I got it from a third party seller, who specialize in making accessories for Tamashii Nations' figures. This is the energy attack that he uses, swirling two eye sluggers (head horns) around in both his hand, using it to block attacks and as nunchucks, swinging them at monsters.

The piece is a soft plastic, shaped like 2 buzzsaws with eye sluggers in the center of the circle, connected by a zigzap energy beam in the middle. You simply fit the openings over both of his hands to achieve the desired effect. It is a translucent blue with tiny specks of glitter in it. Since it is soft and bendable, this makes it easier to achieve various action poses. It's a nice accessory and so simple that Tamashii Nations should have included something like this with the figure. It definitely enhances Ultraman Z. While I still enjoy the S.H. Figuarts line, I've long since stopped questioning some of the odd decisions they make, such as why certain figures lack significant accessories, why certain figures are deemed web exclusives, or why they tease a figure at a show that never gets produced.

Anyway, i'm happy with this simple yet cool effect piece for my Alpha Edge Zett. As for future Figuarts Ultraman Z releases, the next form of Z will be Gamma Future, which looks nice but I will most likely skip, as it's not really a favorite. I still want to see them produce a red Beta Smash form, and am still waiting for his original form, which was shown some months ago but has yet to be revealed as a pre-order. I recall seeing a prototype of Ultraman Tiga several YEARS ago, and we're finally getting one in July, so who knows when that original form will drop. Oh well, at least now my Z has a weapon.

S.H. MonsterArts King Kong '21

The next May pre-order to arrive is S.H. MonsterArts King Kong from the Godzilla vs. Kong film. I was psyched to get a highly articulated Kong from Tamashii Nations, and the great ape is finally here. Kong is a little shorter than Godzilla (just like in the film). The details of the sculpt are all well done. Tamashii Nations did a good job capturing his look well, from his hair covered body to a few scars on his chest. His faces, including his eyes and teeth on the open mouth head, as well as his axe, are all well painted. The only issue is that they seemed to have gone with a glossy finish, so he seems too shiny, especially on his face and chest. A duller matte shade would've suited him better. At least it would've kept him from looking like he over-moisturized. As for his articulation, he's quite flexible. His head is on a ball joint, ball jointed neck as well, ball jointed shoulders and thighs, upper arm cut, single jointed elbows and knees that go in further than 90 deg...

S.H. MonsterArts Godzilla 1991 Shinjuku Decisive Battle version

The latest Godzilla figure I pre-ordered from the S.H. MonsterArts line has arrived. It is the 1991 Shinjuku Decisive Battle version, to go along with the Mecha King Ghidorah release from earlier this year. While the suit is almost the same as the one used in 1989's Godzilla vs. Biollante, they made some slight adjustments. Compared to the BioGoji figure, this one is much thicker, therefore, he does look different from that other release. His sculpt is the classic 90's era Heisei look, with small head, thick thighs, large dorsal spines and a long tail. Like all the other Godzilla suits of that decade, he has a cat-like face, both cute and menacing. While the King of the Monsters has had multiple looks throughout his 50+ years, it's the Heisei era that seems the most iconic. Artwork, toys, comics, etc, have all utilized this particular design. Similar to the 89 suit, this 91 figure has a small set of dorsal spines, followed by a much larger one, and then gradually getting sm...

S.H. Figuarts Ultimate Ageis/Ultraman Zero Armor option parts set

Earlier in the week I received my S.H. Figuarts Ultimate Ageis/Ultraman Zero Armor option parts set. I was busy with work and doing other reviews, but I finally got around to checking these out. They turned out to be pretty cool option parts. Ultimate Aegis is a set of armor created by Ultraman Noa . My initial thought was that they may be a bit of a hassle to attach to the Ultras. They ended up being fairly easily to swap out and put on them. The only issue I had was with the large piece (Final Ultimate Zero) that Ultraman Zero holds. I was having trouble getting his arm peg into the fist (it’s attached to the piece). Then I realized that I had on his forearm with his bracelet, so I swapped out the regular forearm without the bracelet and it went in easily. For the ultimate Zero Sword, each hand piece comes with its own fists, a red (for X) and blue (for Zero). The top of the fist has a peg that attaches to the piece, and then you ...
