The next May pre-order release is none other than Pac-Man himself. As a kid I used to love playing Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Junior Pac-Man, etc. at the local arcades. He made his debut in 1980, so last year, Tamashii Nations decided to celebrate his 40th anniversary by announcing several Pac-Man related items. This articulated figure seemed too cool to pass up, so here it is!
Pac-Man comes with 2 pairs of hands (fists and open palm), a single right hand giving a thumbs up, a little plastic ghost, a little plastic cherry, and an alternate face plate with winking eye. You simply swap out the faces by popping off the plates and inserting the new one into the pegs on the body to secure it. The hands are on ball joints that easily swap off. He seems to be made of hard plastic, as are the ghost and cherry, with his hands being a softer rubber. The ghost and cherry accessories have a hole in the back that you can peg onto a stand. They didn't include a stand, but I have so many extra stands so it's ok. There is also a hole underneath Pac-Man himself, so you can place him onto a stand as well.
For his articulation, his shoulders are on a hinge that rotates fully around, upper arm swivels, single hinged elbows, his hands are on ball joints so they can tilt to the sides, his thighs are on a hinge on the body that slide forward and backward, hinges on the top of the legs that rotate fully, single jointed knees, and ankles on ball joints that rotate fully and rock up and down and to the sides. His joints aren't particularly intricate, but they're enough to get him to sit, do one-legged stands and other fun poses. I enjoyed messing around with him.
S.H. Figuarts Pac-Man is a nice figure with decent accessories and fair articulation. He definitely hits that nostalgia vibe for those of us who grew up in the 80's, playing the video game. I still have it downloaded on my phone, with classic mazes and a bunch of different new ones, too. He is also fairly cheap. I got mine for $20. Go ahead and get it if you're in the mood for a figure that has that awesome retro 80's vibe.
Waka-waka-waka, sayonara!
