My Guts Wing set was delivered this week, and I came across this Launch figure on sale at a hobby shop, so I picked her up. Let’s check them out.
The Guts Wing pack comes with both 1 and 2 from Ultraman Tiga. While the set was cheap, they should have included them with their Golza figure. It would’ve made it more expensive, but the price you’d pay for both combined would probably be the same. But anyway, the 2 jets are nicely detailed and painted, which is impressive considering their size (especially the small one).
Included in the set are two stands, one solid and one bendy wire that peg into holes underneath the jets and onto clear plastic bases that say Guts on them. While the bendy wire stands are nice, they should have made the bases a thicker, heavier plastic, as they’re too light to support the jets at certain angles, especially the bigger Guts Wing 2. The solid stands provide more security from easily falling over.
As for articulation, the Guts Wing 1 has wings that fold back together, and the Guts Wing 2 has the middle ports that open to reveal a firing cannon. This makes this set a worthy accessory pack to add to your collection, looking nice in displays and dioramas.
As for my other purchase, S.H. Figuarts Launch (or Lunch) is a character from the Dragon Ball series that has a disorder that causes her to change personalities every time she sneezes. The good one is sweet and cheerful with blue hair, while the bad one is angry and quick to commit crimes and pull out a gun and shoot, and has blonde hair. The figure comes with both heads and their faces to switch her out.
The accessories include blonde and blue haired heads, 5 face plates (smiling, open mouth and gritting for good Launch, side eyed gritting and sly smile for bad Launch), a dragon ball, a machine gun, and 3 pairs of hands (relaxed, fists and for holding the gun). Everything on the figure is sculpted and painted nicely. She’s casually dressed in a green spaghetti strap tank, yellow shorts, red hair tie, green leg warmers and red tennis shoes.
Her articulation includes head on a ball joint, hinge on the back of her hair to allow for greater head range, ball jointed shoulders and thighs, single jointed elbows and knees, ball joint upper torso and waist, ball peg wrists, toe hinge and ankle rockers. She can easily achieve a wide variety of poses, making her a fun figure for photos and displays.
You can easily interchange the face portraits, though they won’t match, since the good has blue eye brows and the bad has yellow. The front bangs can also interchange, though they don’t fit as snuggly.
S.H. Figuarts Launch is a great release, with a good amount of accessories, nice articulation and detailed sculpt and paint apps. Tamashii Nations seem to put a lot of care into their Dragon Ball line; the few I own are all exceptional figures. Launch is a shining example of that quality and is absolutely worth the purchase. If you’re a Dragon Ball fan and like the character, she’s definitely recommended.
