At a local hobby shop, I was able to pick up this Creepshow Creeper figure. Creepshow and it’s sequel are 2 of my favorite 80’s horror films, so I couldn’t resist this cool ghoul.
The figure comes with 3 different head sculpts (eyes looking forward, eyes to the side, and alternate portrait that’s the cover of the film poster), a Jack-o-lantern, a candle holder with burning candle, and a small reproduction of the comic book. The figure is wrapped in a soft cloth robe, painted to appear weathered and dirty. The head sculpts are all highly detailed. I especially love the bulging eyeball on the poster version portrait. The little comic book is highly detailed; I’m impressed that they were able to print clearly on something so small. The inside appears to have scenes from the cockroach episode that closed the film.
The articulation is decent, with peg joint head, ball joint upper torso, swivel hinge shoulders, hips, wrists and ankles, and single joint elbows and thighs. All 3 heads have hinged jaw that can open and close, and a piece of his scarf has a bendy wire in it, allowing you to bend it up and to the sides. One hand is sculpted open, while the other is pointing, but can have the comic book easily placed in it, while the candle fits snuggly in the open hand. The Creeper can be posed fairly well. It can have some challenges standing on its own, you simply need to make sure the feet are firmly planted flat so it doesn’t topple over. One of the heads is a bit loose and can pop out easily if you pull too hard when moving it. Other than these 2 small issues, everything else is great.
NECA Ultimate Creep is a very unique and fun offering. I love that NECA releases action figures based off horror and sci-fi characters, especially unexpected ones, such as this Creep, the aliens from They Live, and Kurt Russell’s MacReady from The Thing. This gives me hope that they might eventually give us the creepy ghoul from Carnival of Souls, the monster from Horror of Party Beach, or perhaps even The Deadly Spawn monster. I’m happy to add Creepshow Creep to my horror collection. It’s worth getting if you’re a fan of the film.
