Mezco One:12 Collective Doctor Doom

My final late 2023 December preorder arrived last week. It's none other than Mezco One:12 Collective Doctor Doom. This is my first Mezco figure, and I've always loved Doctor Doom, so I couldn't resist purchasing this Marvel big baddie.

He comes with a ton of accessories, including multiple hands, 2 different harness belts, several energy beams and weapons, a spell book, 2 unmasked heads (regular and scarred), 3 different masks that clip onto the heads, a few blast effects, a gun, a gun holster, back rocket boosters, a removable cloth cape that attaches magnetically and has bendy wire in it, a battery lit power syphon machine, a base with his name on it, and a plastic stand. He’s highly detailed and painted, and his arms, body and legs seem to be diecast, giving them a heavy weight. He has everything you need to make him the definitive Doctor Doom figure. So of course, he was pricey. That being said….

For being an expensive figure, there were a few things that broke easily. The small magnet that attaches to the inside of the cape fell off and would not stay put in the slot in went into. A tiny drop of krazee glue fixed that. Then the knee brace on his left leg popped off, and would not stay on very securely, so more krazee glue was needed. And finally, when I was attempting to switch out the rocket boosters on his back, the tiny peg on one of them snapped, staying lodged in the opening of his back. Then the flat piece where it attaches to the figure’s back of the other one also snapped. Since these accessories are now damaged, he can’t be displayed with those flight rocket boosters. This doesn’t get me excited to want to purchase any more Mezco figures if their stuff falls apart this easily.

The articulation is pretty good. His head is on a ball peg, with ball joint shoulders and thighs, double jointed elbows and knees, upper bicep swivel, ball joint torso, and ball hinged wrists and ankles. His cloth cape has bendy wires running along the side, making it posable. The masks simply clip on and off on the 2 heads, making them easy to replace. Since his short skirt is made of cloth, it doesn’t impede the movement of his legs at all. And with holes under his feet that allow him to clip into the large round base, he can be posed securely (though he poses just fine on his own without the base).

While the figure looks nice, moves well, and has a ton of accessories, the easily breaking pieces were a big letdown. The cape magnet and knee guard were easy fixes, but you shouldn’t have to bust out super glue for an expensive import figure. Sure, the Japanese imports have stuff that pops off here and there, but you simply pop them back in and they hold. Breaking pieces are a little more annoying. While I like the wide selection of masks, hands, and the various beam accessories, I would have been satisfied with less extras for a cheaper price. Compared to my Marvel Legends Doom, in many ways it’s a better figure, though the simplicity of the ML still makes it a great release, especially with the custom cape I have for it. It’s too bad that Mafex hasn't given us a Doctor Doom yet. Their comic figures are outstanding, and I know that when they finally decide to do the great Doom, it will kick ass. For now, this Mezco is nice, but I expected more from such a well praised company.

Help Me… I’m Possessed (1974) / #Missingcouple (2024)

I've watched some weird, obscure horror movies throughout my life. I can now add this lurid 1974 schlockfest to that growing list. In a castle in the desert, Dr. Arthur Blackwood runs a sanitarium filled with mentally disturbed patients (as well as staff). He claims to be working on finding a way to cure people of any violent tendencies they have, and brags about his younger sister, innocent, child-like Melanie, as evidence that his treatment works. When she was a child, their parents had to keep her locked up and chained in the basement, to control her violent fits. Now that he's cured her, Arthur has his wife Diane come to the castle to meet Melanie, so that they can be one big, happy family. Diane begins to grow suspicious that something is amiss after a Sheriff shows up investigating the murder of 2 local teens, and sets about on her own investigation, hoping to uncover the sinister secrets that she feels her husband is hiding. Help Me... I'm Possessed is an outrageous,...

S.H. MonsterArts Anguirus 1972

One of my most anticipated figure releases of 2025 was finally delivered this last week. Godzilla's trusty sidekick, S. H. MonsterArts Anguirus (based on the 1972 suit). From the early video and photo reviews I had seen, he looked to have turned out a great figure. Now that I have him in hand, he absolutely is! This Ankylosaurus is based on the suit that was introduced in 1968's Destroy All Monsters, and made subsequent appearances in Godzilla vs. Gigan (72), Godzilla vs. Megalon (73), and Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (74). Anguirus was the 2nd Toho monster to ever appear on screen, dueling with the big G in 1955's Godzilla Raids Again. For the later films, he became Godzilla's buddy, helping him out in his various battles. I'm a bit surprised that it took Bandai this long to release Anguirus in the MonsterArts line, as he's one of the more popular kaiju, but better late than never. He's painted in a chocolate brown, with pale yellow on his various spikes, hor...

RicSan Custom Toys Kyōrū Kaiju (Titanosaurus)

My latest kaiju figure purchase is the Titanosaurus made by Ricsan Custom Toys. I own and love the Varan & Gabara, so of course I had to preorder this one when it was available. He was delivered earlier this week. This kaiju hails from the last Godzilla film of the Showa era, 1975's Terror of Mechagodzilla. The Black Hole aliens are back, rebuilding their robot in another effort to take over the planet. They enlist the help of an ostracized Earth scientist named Mafune and his daughter Katsura, who are able to control an aquatic dinosaur named Titanosaurus. They plan to use both kaiju and mecha to attack Japan. Titano was a cool monster, with his tail that opened into a fish fin, and he would use it to create whirlpools in the sea, and high winds on land. I'm hoping that S.H. Monsterarts makes one for the 50th anniversary of the film, but when I saw this Ricsan Custom version, I couldn't pass it up. Titanosaurus (called the Kyōrū Kaiju), comes in a white box, with its n...
