More stuff was revealed at the Tamashii Nations 2024 Event, and look at what it is…. None other than the Godzilla 2000 film suit. S.H. MonsterArts had released a G2K, but it was based on the concept art, and not what the actual suit ended up looking like. For years, fans have been wanting MonsterArts to give us an accurate screen version of G2K, and finally, here it is!
These photos show G2K in all his large headed, purple-spiked glory. What I find particularly interesting is that this comes a few months AFTER Hiya announced and put up for preorder their Godzilla 2000, which is set to drop during the 2nd quarter of 2025. I went ahead and preordered that one, since I honestly didn’t think SHMA would ever give us a screen accurate G2K. And yet, here we are. It looks like Hiya’s increasingly nice releases have lit a fire under SHMA’s ass, causing them to up their game. Nothing like a little friendly competition, eh? I will most likely purchase SHMA’s G2K as well, as it will be more in scale with the rest of my kaiju figures. Just for reference, here are the promo shots of Hiya’s Godzilla 2000.
The other reveal that caught my attention was Ultraman Cosmo, the 90’s blue boy. Not sure if I will purchase this one. I wasn’t as big a fan of Cosmo as I was of Tiga and Dyna (though to be fair, I never really watched Cosmo, other than a few clips on YouTube).
And here is a photo of the Showa Ultra brothers turned into statues, from the Ace episode where he fought Alien Hipporit. Not sure if these will ever be released, but if you’re a completist, this might be right up your alley.
And that’s about it for now. I’m very curious as to how many fans will suddenly start selling their older SHMA G2K figures, now that it looks like they’ll be releasing a more screen accurate version. I expect to suddenly see a flood of for sale posts for concept art Godzilla 2000 pop up within the next few days. Wouldn’t that be funny (or messed up) if SHMA let their screen accurate G2K sit in unproduced limbo for the next 5 years or so?
