S.H. MonsterArts Godzilla Evolved Version (2024)

Early last week, this figure was delivered. It is the Evolved Godzilla from the film Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire, from S.H. MonsterArts. I admit, I haven’t bothered to watch the movie. When I first saw the trailer (about a month after having watched Godzilla Minus One and still being on a high from it), the trailer for The New Empire dropped, and I thought it looked stupid as fuck, especially this bad CGI scene of Godzilla and Kong running towards the camera like superheroes. The rest of it looked like Planet of the Apes, so I chose to pass. However, I do think Godzilla’s new evolved look is pretty cool, so when S.H. MonsterArts announced his figure, I went ahead and preordered it. And now, Pinkzilla is finally here.

Godzilla Evolved has a sleeker, leaner body, with a bigger head and pink dorsal spines. His tail ends in pink spikes, like an ankylosaurus. The figure turned out looking great, with the spines painted but also translucent, really standing out from the rest of his body. There’s also pink in the mouth, his eyes look good, and the body is in a grayish, brownish shade with lighter highlights throughout, most noticeable on his torso. His chest is thick, while the waist is thinner. For accessories, he came with an alternate pair of hands that seem to be grabbing, ready to claw and fight.

The articulation is the real star of this figure. Unlike the other Monsterverse G’s, this one can move more dynamically. The head and neck can look down and turn to the sides very far. The only limitation is the ability to look up, something that the other figure (I own the 2019 version) has him beat at. The upper torso can crunch forward to aid with those downward poses. The waist can also crunch a bit, but is more limited. It can’t really twist to the sides. The arms can turn fully around and out, the elbows bend and twist. The legs can kick forward and far apart, with an extra piece in between the thighs to cover any gaps. The knees can bend in a lot, and the ankles have a good pivot. Finally, the many segments of the tail can bend and twist. There is one section on mine that pops off if turned too far, but it can easily reattach.  The left hand can also pop off if twisted too far. Besides that, the rest of the joints are solid. He can achieve a variety of poses, such as running, crouching, kicking, curled up in a ball, and various karate style fighting moves with his arms.

S.H. MonsterArts Godzilla Evolved turned out really nice. He looks great and moves pretty well. When the figure was first announced, there were a lot of naysayers predicting their usual doom and gloom, such as the figure will turn out looking awful, it would have a bad paint job, it would be a QC nightmare, etc, etc. Now that the figure is out, all those people who were talking shit are, big surprise, very silent. I never understood why people feel the need to trash a figure before it’s even been released. They do it with every damn new one announced. Bandai just dropped photos of an Anguirus 1972 to be released in the future, and I already saw some idiot predict that the figure will probably fall apart. Whatever! But back to Godzilla Evolved, I’m quite satisfied with it. Nuff said.

Help Me… I’m Possessed (1974) / #Missingcouple (2024)

I've watched some weird, obscure horror movies throughout my life. I can now add this lurid 1974 schlockfest to that growing list. In a castle in the desert, Dr. Arthur Blackwood runs a sanitarium filled with mentally disturbed patients (as well as staff). He claims to be working on finding a way to cure people of any violent tendencies they have, and brags about his younger sister, innocent, child-like Melanie, as evidence that his treatment works. When she was a child, their parents had to keep her locked up and chained in the basement, to control her violent fits. Now that he's cured her, Arthur has his wife Diane come to the castle to meet Melanie, so that they can be one big, happy family. Diane begins to grow suspicious that something is amiss after a Sheriff shows up investigating the murder of 2 local teens, and sets about on her own investigation, hoping to uncover the sinister secrets that she feels her husband is hiding. Help Me... I'm Possessed is an outrageous,...

RicSan Custom Toys Kyōrū Kaiju (Titanosaurus)

My latest kaiju figure purchase is the Titanosaurus made by Ricsan Custom Toys. I own and love the Varan & Gabara, so of course I had to preorder this one when it was available. He was delivered earlier this week. This kaiju hails from the last Godzilla film of the Showa era, 1975's Terror of Mechagodzilla. The Black Hole aliens are back, rebuilding their robot in another effort to take over the planet. They enlist the help of an ostracized Earth scientist named Mafune and his daughter Katsura, who are able to control an aquatic dinosaur named Titanosaurus. They plan to use both kaiju and mecha to attack Japan. Titano was a cool monster, with his tail that opened into a fish fin, and he would use it to create whirlpools in the sea, and high winds on land. I'm hoping that S.H. Monsterarts makes one for the 50th anniversary of the film, but when I saw this Ricsan Custom version, I couldn't pass it up. Titanosaurus (called the Kyōrū Kaiju), comes in a white box, with its n...

S.H. MonsterArts Anguirus 1972

One of my most anticipated figure releases of 2025 was finally delivered this last week. Godzilla's trusty sidekick, S. H. MonsterArts Anguirus (based on the 1972 suit). From the early video and photo reviews I had seen, he looked to have turned out a great figure. Now that I have him in hand, he absolutely is! This Ankylosaurus is based on the suit that was introduced in 1968's Destroy All Monsters, and made subsequent appearances in Godzilla vs. Gigan (72), Godzilla vs. Megalon (73), and Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (74). Anguirus was the 2nd Toho monster to ever appear on screen, dueling with the big G in 1955's Godzilla Raids Again. For the later films, he became Godzilla's buddy, helping him out in his various battles. I'm a bit surprised that it took Bandai this long to release Anguirus in the MonsterArts line, as he's one of the more popular kaiju, but better late than never. He's painted in a chocolate brown, with pale yellow on his various spikes, hor...
