From the series Ultraman Omega, the newest kaiju release in the Figuarts line was delivered this week: the monster Rekiness, who aided Omega in his fights with other kaiju, utilizing telekinetic abilities to move stuff.
Rekiness is a unique looking kaiju, resembling an anime character more than an actual monster, with his bright colors and spiked armor. I could easily see him featured in the Dragonball series. Bandai did a good job accurately capturing his look, from his cute, goofy face, to the various shades of blue, red and white found throughout his body and limbs. Everything is painted and sculpted nicely, allowing the action figure to pop like he did in the series. I love his fish-like tail, the spikey armor on his neck, arms and legs, and even the color timer-like crystal on his chest. In a sea of grey, black and brown kaiju, Rekiness is like a brightly lit kaleidoscope. The figure, unfortunately, comes with no accessories. Since he didn't shoot any sort of beam, they could have included a beam for Omega. The figure is still enjoyable on it's own.
His articulation is also unique, most likely due to the design. His shoulder pads are on hinges, allowing them to be pulled up and out, to keep them from impeding the range of his arms. The shoulders have butterfly joints, with both bicep and elbow swivels. The legs can kick forward, though they'll do so more at an angle due to the thickness of his thighs, instead of straightforward. His upper torso and waist can twist, crunch and bend, allowing the body to have a lot of range. His head is a bit limited, only able to twist a bit to each side, as are his ankles, which seem to "slide" in to the ball joint at the front of the foot. Despite that, he can balance on just his feet, as well as do kick poses, with support from the tail. The knees can bend into the back of the leg, allowing him to kneel. Once you get used to his engineering, you'll find yourself enjoying playing and posing him.
S.H. Figuarts Rekiness is a good release. He was a cool, unique monster, and Bandai made him just as interesting in action figure form. Usually whenever releasing a kaiju or mecha from an Ultraman series, Bandai would always include at least one accessory, so it's odd that Rekiness came with nothing. I've never understood why some kaiju figures are bare bone releases, and others are not. Either way, he's still a nice addition to the Ultraman line, especially with his vibrant colors and design. Now my Omega figure has a buddy that he can hang out with. Rekiness is my first SHF preorder of this year, and he did not disappoint. I'm looking forward to what other announcements we may see for the rest of 2026, and especially excited for late February's drop, the goofy kaiju Birdon.
