After waiting an extra month, I finally received my Ultraman Tiga Sky Type from S.H. Figuarts. When it first went up for pre-order, it sold out fast, pretty much everywhere. I never did fully understand why it did. Anyway, most retailers ended up getting more supplies and I was able to snag one, but had to wait longer for delivery.
Ultraman Tiga switches to Sky Type when he wants extra speed and agility. He turns purple, and can fly faster, giving him an advantage in aerial combat. This form also has his special move, called the Ranbalt Beam Shell, an attack in the form of a blue, arrow like energy bolt. In addition to the color change and leaner body, he's pretty much the same as the other 2 figures. In other words, he is sculpted and painted well.
His accessories include his blue beam attack, made of translucent blue material, molded into his hand. He has an alternate, low energy color timer, and a total of 7 pairs of hands, including fists, various flat and open, and one pointing with an extra flat hand for balancing on the ground. Everything fits well and is fairly easy to swap out. I have noticed over the years that the wrist pegs are much easier to remove and attach hands to, something that certain older figures seemed to have a bit of a struggle with. Another cool thing about the Shinkocchou Seihou Ultraman line is that since all their wrist pegs are pretty much the same size, you can easily swap with hands that came with other figures, such as Dyna's thumbs up, or even Ultraman's Specium Beam shooting one.
His articulation is really good. Sporting a combination of ball joints and swivel hinges, paired with softer, more pliable material, he can twist, bend, crunch and move quite fluidly. The legs can kick up high and spread out wide. His torso can bend and turn with ease. The addition of butterfly joints helps the arms to bend far forward. You'll be able to pose him with a lot of ease. I'd say he's the most flexible of the Tigas I own (Multi-Type and Power Type).
S.H. Figuarts Shinkocchou Seihou Ultraman Tiga Sky Type is a great figure to own, just as fantastic as the other ones in the line (well, except for the very first release of Tiga, with the easily peeling paint on the chest, but that was thankfully corrected with a re-release). My Ultraman Tiga now has all his forms to properly face off against any opponent. So you know what I'm going to say next. Give us more Tiga kaiju. They've teased Melba, so maybe that one will be the next one they drop. Considering this year is Tiga's 30th anniversary, more kaiju would be awesome. They're already giving us a special 30th Tiga with lots more attack effects, so another co-star or two wouldn't hurt, right? I vote for Gazort and maybe Leilons. OK, enough of me whining about more Ultra kaiju. Sayonara!
