It’s been a long while since I purchased a figure from Evolution Toy. They had started a kaiju series called Monster Action Figure (MAF), featuring Ultra kaiju from their appearance on Redman. Kanegon, Icarus and a Baltan were released. None of those really caught my attention until this guy, Zetton II. This is his goofier look from the last episode of Return of Ultraman, where he partners with Alien Bat to kill Ultraman Jack. They are going to release a Bat figure later this year, and I went ahead and pre-ordered him. Zetton II was just delivered recently.
Zetton II is nicely painted and detailed, with translucent amber on his head and the circles on his chest, the rest of his body in a dark charcoal gray, with his arms, legs and antennas a light gray with black wash. And finally, the light colored bumps on the back of his shell. Since Evolution Toy figures are larger, he towers over His Figuarts counterpart. He’s more in scale with the NECA Godzilla figures, and of course, the Evolution Toy Hero Action Figures like the Redman Dark I own.
His articulation includes head on a ball joint, ball jointed shoulders with slight butterfly joint, double jointed elbows, pegged wrists, ball jointed waist with decent side twist, ball jointed, drop down thighs, single jointed knees, and ball joints on his ankles. Zetton II has decent engineering that allows for some good posing options. Since his body and head are a bit top heavy, he can have issues standing at times; just make sure his feet are firmly flat and knees are positioned to support the weight.
Zetton II is a surprising fun release from Evolution Toy. He looks great and accurate to the suit, and he moves better than expected. I’m curious to see what other monsters they may release in the future. For now, they seem to be focused on the Ultra kaiju that were featured on the Redman show. I would love to see some Spectreman, Fireman or Mirrorman kaiju, though I wonder if they’re only licensed for the Tsuburaya ones. Either way, Zetton II is worth getting if you’re a fan of this space dinosaur, especially his wonkier 2nd appearance.
