After waiting for over ONE YEAR for this figure to drop, it’s finally here! I originally preordered it in November of 2021, with a release date of August 2022. Then it got pushed back to September. Then December. Then a few more times in 2023. In late April, it was finally released. At last, Mafex X-Force Deadpool has arrived.
This Deadpool figure is dressed in a grey and black X-Force suit, with a red x on his harness and belt buckle, and red eyes. The sculpt is thicker and more muscular than the original comic version that Mafex released some years ago. His katanas hang vertically on his back harness, and he sports black bracelets and a black choker around his neck, as well as strap pockets on his belt and around his right leg. While the color scheme is simple, the paint apps are clean, and the sculpt looks great. His accessories include 7 pairs of hands (fists, thumbs up, pointing, relaxed, open fingers, katana holding, and trigger finger (more on that in a bit), 4 different portraits (regular, mad, wide eyed and smiling/squinting), 2 katanas, 2 katana handles that plug into his harness, and a stand with several different extensions. To put his blades in his hand, you pop out the small silver handle at the end, push it into the hole in his hand, then plug that silver handle back in. Those pieces are small, so be wary of not dropping and losing them. Also to note, the bracelets on his wrists and his choker are loose pieces, so be extra cautious when switching out the hands and heads to avoid these parts falling off and potentially disappearing into that void that small things enter when they hit the ground. Otherwise, everything is easy to swap out.
Now for the big elephant in the room. This Deadpool (like the 1st release) does NOT come with any guns. I don’t know why a character who’s known for using them came without them. However, because trigger finger hands are included, any pistol made for 1:12 figures can easily fit them, and since I have plenty of those, my Deadpool won’t be lacking in the shoot ‘em up department.
His articulation includes head and neck on ball joints, ball joint upper torso and waist, hinged, ball jointed shoulders that pop up and forward a bit, upper bicep swivel, double jointed elbows and knees, swivel pegged wrists, ball jointed shoulders thighs with swivel, and hinge ankle rocker combo. Because of the thicker sculpt of his arms, his elbows bend just a little over 90 degrees, and his bracelets impede the movement of his wrists. Some of his joints were a little tight, so I applied a few drops of shock oil, and now everything moves quite smoothly. Though he’s not as flexible as the OG release, he’s able to achieve many action and fighting poses, and with the included stand, you have a wide variety of display options.
Final thoughts? After waiting through multiple delays, this X-Force Deadpool figure looks great, moves well, and despite not having any fire power, his various hands and head sculpts make him quite expressive and fun. Even though Mafex figures take so damn long to be released (I preordered their Shin Ultraman that’s due in December, but I just know it’ll be delayed), their comic book figures have all been great. The few I own are all winners, and this Deadpool joins their ranks in being a worthy release.
