While browsing at my local Japanese supermarket shopping center, I took a stroll into the One Piece Game Shop that's connected to the Mitsuwa Marketplace supermarket. They have various Bandai figures, as well as lots of Gashapon vending machines. I came across the Ultraman Omega Rekiness armor figure, so I decided to buy one, as well as some more action figure stands. It wasn't too expensive, and since I own both the standard Omega and Rekiness, I figure why not have this combined form.
This is the form of Omega that happens when he fuses with the monster Rekiness. He sports a blue horn, a spiked armor shoulder pad on his left arm, wrist gauntlets, and a sword that resembles Rekiness' tail. The figure is well painted, with lots of nice shading on the various spikes of the armor. Tamashii Nations did a fine job is capturing this power-up version of Omega in a small scale form, without sacrificing any details. Omega's Rekiness armor has that post-apocalyptic Dieselpunk aesthetic. I can see this Omega shredding on an electric guitar in a metal band.
The accessories include his chainsaw-like sword, with various shades of blue, aqua, white and red. There's also a pink, low energy color timer that's fairly easy to switch out. He also has 4 pairs of hands (fists, relaxed, open palm and weapon holding). The hands included on the regular release of Omega fit into his wrist joints as well, so you can always mix and match for more variety. The articulation is much the same as the standard Omega figure, including double jointed elbows and knees, upper arm and waist joints, and slight butterfly joints at the shoulders. For the armor piece that goes around his left shoulder, its connected to his back via a hinge, allowing you to move it up so it doesn't impede the movement of that arm. This figure is still not able to spread his legs wide like the first release, but he's still decently posable.
S.H. Figuarts Ultraman Omega Rekiness Armor is a good figure to own, especially if you have the standard base version and his sidekick kaiju pal. He looks very cool with the added armor. Omega’s other two forms are up for preorder, but I’m not planning on buying either of those. This trio that I own are good enough for me. And since Tsuburaya is already rolling out trailers for their new upcoming series, Ultraman Teo, that will most likely be what Bandai focuses on next in their S.H. Figuarts line. Since this is the 60th anniversary of that franchise, I'm hoping that they give us more classic kaiju. There are rumors that they plan on doing a Shin Hayata figure, to which I say, it’s about damn time. Now give us more kaiju, Bandai! More, more, more!
