Future Factory Action Figure Redman

After getting the new Future Factory Action Figure Mirrorman and seeing how great it was, I went ahead and purchased the company's other tokusatsu hero, Redman. He hails from the 1972 series of the same name, produced by Tsuburaya Productions. Each episode was like a 5 minute short that was featured on a children's variety program on Nippon TV. Redman was a man-sized hero who would fight with various kaiju from the Ultra series. The show was crudely shot, basically taking place outdoors in a field, and many of the Ultra kaiju costumes looked worn & goofy. Despite its amateur production, Redman has gained fame amongst tokusatsu fans. Episodes can be easily found on YouTube.

Redman is, you guessed it, red, with silver boots, gloves, belt buckle, upper chest, neck and lower portion of his face. He sports a pair of silver antenna where his ears would be. Future Factory did a fine job capturing his simple but cool appearance. The vinyl he's made of is quite soft and flexible, making it easier for his joints to move smoothly. Evolution Toy had previously released a Redman figure (I own a black variant), but the body proportions of this figure are better and less cartoonish.

Redman came packed with accessories. Included are a red base and stand, which comes in several pieces. I think its very cool that they painted it red, instead of the usual translucent plastic that most stands seem to be. Also included are an extra pair of antenna, 2 blade weapons with red handles, and 2 spear weapons with a silver cross at the end. And finally, 7 pairs of hands, including fists, relaxed, flat, and a few to hold his blade and spear of death. I was pleasantly surprised to see that there were 2 of each of his weapons. They could've easily given him just one of each, so an extra pair is very nice and much appreciated.

His engineering is great, pretty much the same as Mirrorman. Ball joint head, neck and wrists, swivel hinge shoulders, thighs and ankles, upper torso and waist ball joints, double jointed elbows and knees, drop down thighs, and toe hinge. Also, you can pull his shoulders out a little to give the arms extra range, and his elbows can also twist to the sides. Because the body is a softer material, getting him into poses is a breeze. The crotch piece is especially soft, making it easy to do those high kicks. The thighs are a bit loose, but it's nothing too extreme. He's still able to hold poses very well. Swapping out the hands is also very easy, something that could be a chore with the older Evolution Toy figures.

Future Factory Action Figure Redman is another winner from this company. He looks great, moves well, and being in the 1:12 scale, he'll look great next to your SHF Ultraman and Ultra kaiju, as well as SHMA Godzilla figures. I've been checking regularly on Ami Ami to see if there are any new FFAF releases up for preorder. They do have Ultraman Melos (from the Manga series) and Booska available, so if you like either of those characters, go to Ami Ami to grab 'em while you can. I'm hoping they redo the other Evolution Toy tokusatsu heroes, like Spectreman, Fireman and Jumborg Ace. If any of those get announced, they will be instant preorders. I would also LOVE more obscure ones like Diamond Eye, Go! Greenman and Megaloman, and of course, kaiju! I'm psyched this this company has taken over producing those older Evolution Toy heroes and given them much needed improvements. Redman is another winner!

Help Me… I’m Possessed (1974) / #Missingcouple (2024)

I've watched some weird, obscure horror movies throughout my life. I can now add this lurid 1974 schlockfest to that growing list. In a castle in the desert, Dr. Arthur Blackwood runs a sanitarium filled with mentally disturbed patients (as well as staff). He claims to be working on finding a way to cure people of any violent tendencies they have, and brags about his younger sister, innocent, child-like Melanie, as evidence that his treatment works. When she was a child, their parents had to keep her locked up and chained in the basement, to control her violent fits. Now that he's cured her, Arthur has his wife Diane come to the castle to meet Melanie, so that they can be one big, happy family. Diane begins to grow suspicious that something is amiss after a Sheriff shows up investigating the murder of 2 local teens, and sets about on her own investigation, hoping to uncover the sinister secrets that she feels her husband is hiding. Help Me... I'm Possessed is an outrageous,...

Ultraman Omega finale

Episode 25, the series finale of Ultraman Omega aired this Friday. From the very first episode I was hooked, and the series continued to maintain a high quality until the surprisingly emotional end. Sorato (Omega) regained all his memories, learning that he was one of many Space Gazers, who's job is to watch a planet and not interfere with any wars between the species (in Earth's case, humans and kaiju). A space Gazer's job is to observe, study and take notes, to learn from a planet's successes and mistakes, in the hopes of finding the right formula to achieve universal peace. Having returned to his previous role as simply a watcher, Kosei, Ayumu and Sayuki were forced to rely on themselves and their team to defeat the powerful kaiju Zomera. As he continued to watch the battle, Sorato/Omega found himself wrestling with the inactive role he was meant to do and his memories of the friendships he had forged with the others, as well as the examples of human kindness he had ...

S.H. MonsterArts Anguirus 1972

One of my most anticipated figure releases of 2025 was finally delivered this last week. Godzilla's trusty sidekick, S. H. MonsterArts Anguirus (based on the 1972 suit). From the early video and photo reviews I had seen, he looked to have turned out a great figure. Now that I have him in hand, he absolutely is! This Ankylosaurus is based on the suit that was introduced in 1968's Destroy All Monsters, and made subsequent appearances in Godzilla vs. Gigan (72), Godzilla vs. Megalon (73), and Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (74). Anguirus was the 2nd Toho monster to ever appear on screen, dueling with the big G in 1955's Godzilla Raids Again. For the later films, he became Godzilla's buddy, helping him out in his various battles. I'm a bit surprised that it took Bandai this long to release Anguirus in the MonsterArts line, as he's one of the more popular kaiju, but better late than never. He's painted in a chocolate brown, with pale yellow on his various spikes, hor...
