Blokees Ultraman Galaxy S Version 2

While browsing on YouTube, I came across reviews of several different Blokees Ultraman Galaxy S figures and sets. The volume 2 version had a few that caught my attention, so I decided to buy a set.

These Blokees figures come in a blind box, meaning, you have no way of knowing what's inside the box until you open them. I find these blind boxes fun. Well, that is, until you end up getting every figure except the ones you really wanted. For me, those were the GUTS Member (a guy from the GUTS team in Ultraman Tiga, who strongly resembles Daigo, the human host of Tiga), and Alien Raybeak, with his cool black suit. I also think Kyrieloid and the two Tigas looked sweet (Multi Type and Sky Type). Having owned 2 Tigas from my previous Gatanozoa set (the stone version and darker shaded Multi Type), I knew what to expect, including the pretty cool articulation.

I opted to just get an entire case so that it would guarantee that I'd get the ones I really wanted, as opposed to getting a few individual boxes and potentially ending up with figures I could pass on, or even repeats. This would ensure that Alien Raybeak and GUTS Member would be mine.

The set came with 9 boxes. Each one has 2 plastic bags, one containing a black base stand with an official card of the character and small printed directions on how to build it. The other bag contains the pieces for putting the figure together. All the characters included are Ultraman Tiga Sky Type, Ultraman Tiga Multi Type, Ultraman Trigger, Ultraman X, Ultraman X Beta Spark Armor, Golza, Kyrieloid, GUTS Member and Alien Raybeak. Each figure comes with a beam or energy effect, a weapon or gun, and some of the Ultras come with 2 pairs of hands. The GUTS Member has a helmet, as well as a piece of hair that can be interchangeable for displaying him with or without head gear. Finally, the Golza figure came with a tiny solid Daigo figure holding his Sparklence that he uses to transform into Tiga.

Each figure, once assembled, contains multiple ball joints and hinges, allowing you to pose them. Ultraman X Beta Spark Armor includes a translucent blue energy beam that can actually spin. Since every character has a head that plugs into a ball peg, you can switch them around, putting a different head on a different character for variety and fun. Also, each figure ended up with an extra ball peg, and those can fit into the holding hands and can sub for a microphone if you so wish. That way you can have them sing or do some karaoke.

This set is ultimately very cool. Even characters I'm not a big fan of (like Trigger) still look appealing, with their small, slightly super deformed appearance. I'm glad I picked up this set. I will definitely keep an eye out for any future sets or figures that might catch my attention. And since they are small, they won't take up too much space.

Here's a short video clip showing Ultraman X's spinning energy attack.

Help Me… I’m Possessed (1974) / #Missingcouple (2024)

I've watched some weird, obscure horror movies throughout my life. I can now add this lurid 1974 schlockfest to that growing list. In a castle in the desert, Dr. Arthur Blackwood runs a sanitarium filled with mentally disturbed patients (as well as staff). He claims to be working on finding a way to cure people of any violent tendencies they have, and brags about his younger sister, innocent, child-like Melanie, as evidence that his treatment works. When she was a child, their parents had to keep her locked up and chained in the basement, to control her violent fits. Now that he's cured her, Arthur has his wife Diane come to the castle to meet Melanie, so that they can be one big, happy family. Diane begins to grow suspicious that something is amiss after a Sheriff shows up investigating the murder of 2 local teens, and sets about on her own investigation, hoping to uncover the sinister secrets that she feels her husband is hiding. Help Me... I'm Possessed is an outrageous,...

Ultraman Omega finale

Episode 25, the series finale of Ultraman Omega aired this Friday. From the very first episode I was hooked, and the series continued to maintain a high quality until the surprisingly emotional end. Sorato (Omega) regained all his memories, learning that he was one of many Space Gazers, who's job is to watch a planet and not interfere with any wars between the species (in Earth's case, humans and kaiju). A space Gazer's job is to observe, study and take notes, to learn from a planet's successes and mistakes, in the hopes of finding the right formula to achieve universal peace. Having returned to his previous role as simply a watcher, Kosei, Ayumu and Sayuki were forced to rely on themselves and their team to defeat the powerful kaiju Zomera. As he continued to watch the battle, Sorato/Omega found himself wrestling with the inactive role he was meant to do and his memories of the friendships he had forged with the others, as well as the examples of human kindness he had ...

S.H. MonsterArts Anguirus 1972

One of my most anticipated figure releases of 2025 was finally delivered this last week. Godzilla's trusty sidekick, S. H. MonsterArts Anguirus (based on the 1972 suit). From the early video and photo reviews I had seen, he looked to have turned out a great figure. Now that I have him in hand, he absolutely is! This Ankylosaurus is based on the suit that was introduced in 1968's Destroy All Monsters, and made subsequent appearances in Godzilla vs. Gigan (72), Godzilla vs. Megalon (73), and Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (74). Anguirus was the 2nd Toho monster to ever appear on screen, dueling with the big G in 1955's Godzilla Raids Again. For the later films, he became Godzilla's buddy, helping him out in his various battles. I'm a bit surprised that it took Bandai this long to release Anguirus in the MonsterArts line, as he's one of the more popular kaiju, but better late than never. He's painted in a chocolate brown, with pale yellow on his various spikes, hor...
