Titanic Creations Titanicus

After releasing several super articulated action figures, Titanic Creations finally decided to produce one based on their own original mascot kaiju, Titanicus. He's an aquatic dinosaur-like beast with a fish-like tail, a series of blue spikes along its back, including one large one that resembles an iceberg, and a pointy spike on its head. The figure's look is quite unique, and it's cool that they decided to produce one in their super articulated line.

As far as sculpt and paint, the action figure turned out fantastic. He's quite large, much taller than standard S.H. MonsterArts releases. He's more in scale with the Hiya Toys Godzilla line. The figure is a dull grey, with light white and blue highlights throughout the body, as well as various molded creases and scales. The eyes are pure white, and he has a mouth full of sharp teeth. For the spikes throughout his body, they are all cast in a translucent blue with various levels of shading. The effect makes them stand out like bright blue icicles. Titanicus is an awesome, imposing kaiju. I can see him appearing as a foe in one of the newer Ultraman shows. Titanic Creations really went out of their way to make their mascot fantastic. The box he comes with is also really nice, with one side showing very awesome artwork on the kaiju, and the other showing his name, with the sinking Titanic ship and an iceberg. I believe it was illustrated by Matt Frank, an artist well known in the kaiju community.

For accesssories, Titanicus comes with a small bent boat that can be placed in his open hand or his mouth. He also has a translucent frost beam that connects to a port inside his mouth. However, due to its weight, it causes the head to droop down some. I did notice that some of the other beams I have from various figures can also work for Titanicus, so that's pretty sweet. And finally, an alternate pair of fists. And let me just say, swapping out the hands is a royal pain in the ass. The ends of them end in a peg with a mushroom-like head, and while it holds really well, trying to pull them out is another story. I had to heat up the wrists and pull really, really hard just to get them out. I recall that the Pulgazary figure had swappable hands that were a bit hard to pull out, but with that figure, it got easier once you tried on each pair. This one has wrist pegs that fit into the holes just a little too tightly. I can easily see someone ripping the hands off at the hinge from pulling too hard.

As for the articulation? Well, it's ok. Not horrible, not great, but just passable. I saw one post they did where they described this as being their most articulated release, but I have to disagree. Their Gorgo figure moves way better than this guy. For starters, the sculpt of the body, neck and head are shaped in such a way that they limit the movements. The head and neck can look up, down and to the sides, but just a little bit. The torso has more range, but the large spike on its back pushes against his other small spikes, preventing it from moving any further. The arms can spin up and around, as well as achieve a T-pose, but just barely. The elbows can straighten out, but you have to turn them just right to get maximum stretch. The thighs can turn fully around, but the knees and ankles are quite limited. The tail is multi-segmented and can curl up and to the sides, but due to the weight of the large spikes at the end of it, it sometimes has difficulty holding the pose. You won't be able to get him into very expressive poses other than sitting and one-legged kicks, but that requires a bit of work with the ankles and tail to balance it properly.

Titanic Creations Titanicus is a very nice figure, with an amazing, detailed sculpt, nice paint and arresting translucent spikes. And while the accessories are nice, it's a shame that those hands are such a chore to swap out. Also, the articulation is passable, but considering I've gotten spoiled by Hiya Toys, and the upgraded engineering on some of the latest S.H MonsterArts and S.H. Figuarts releases, this figure's engineering feels like a downgrade, more in line with the old NECA Godzilla figures, which were mostly bricks as far as their joints were concerned. Oh well. At least Titanicus received a fantastic sculpt.

Ultraman Omega finale

Episode 25, the series finale of Ultraman Omega aired this Friday. From the very first episode I was hooked, and the series continued to maintain a high quality until the surprisingly emotional end. Sorato (Omega) regained all his memories, learning that he was one of many Space Gazers, who's job is to watch a planet and not interfere with any wars between the species (in Earth's case, humans and kaiju). A space Gazer's job is to observe, study and take notes, to learn from a planet's successes and mistakes, in the hopes of finding the right formula to achieve universal peace. Having returned to his previous role as simply a watcher, Kosei, Ayumu and Sayuki were forced to rely on themselves and their team to defeat the powerful kaiju Zomera. As he continued to watch the battle, Sorato/Omega found himself wrestling with the inactive role he was meant to do and his memories of the friendships he had forged with the others, as well as the examples of human kindness he had ...

Help Me… I’m Possessed (1974) / #Missingcouple (2024)

I've watched some weird, obscure horror movies throughout my life. I can now add this lurid 1974 schlockfest to that growing list. In a castle in the desert, Dr. Arthur Blackwood runs a sanitarium filled with mentally disturbed patients (as well as staff). He claims to be working on finding a way to cure people of any violent tendencies they have, and brags about his younger sister, innocent, child-like Melanie, as evidence that his treatment works. When she was a child, their parents had to keep her locked up and chained in the basement, to control her violent fits. Now that he's cured her, Arthur has his wife Diane come to the castle to meet Melanie, so that they can be one big, happy family. Diane begins to grow suspicious that something is amiss after a Sheriff shows up investigating the murder of 2 local teens, and sets about on her own investigation, hoping to uncover the sinister secrets that she feels her husband is hiding. Help Me... I'm Possessed is an outrageous,...

S.H. MonsterArts Anguirus 1972

One of my most anticipated figure releases of 2025 was finally delivered this last week. Godzilla's trusty sidekick, S. H. MonsterArts Anguirus (based on the 1972 suit). From the early video and photo reviews I had seen, he looked to have turned out a great figure. Now that I have him in hand, he absolutely is! This Ankylosaurus is based on the suit that was introduced in 1968's Destroy All Monsters, and made subsequent appearances in Godzilla vs. Gigan (72), Godzilla vs. Megalon (73), and Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (74). Anguirus was the 2nd Toho monster to ever appear on screen, dueling with the big G in 1955's Godzilla Raids Again. For the later films, he became Godzilla's buddy, helping him out in his various battles. I'm a bit surprised that it took Bandai this long to release Anguirus in the MonsterArts line, as he's one of the more popular kaiju, but better late than never. He's painted in a chocolate brown, with pale yellow on his various spikes, hor...
